Hydration roll call: water, electrolytes, or pure stubbornness?

With Texas heat ramping up, dehydration can sneak up on you fast especially if you're working outside, exercising, golfing, fishing, at the lake, or spending any amount of time in the sun.

A lot of people think they're just tired, worn out, or "feeling off" when they're actually dehydrated.
Common signs include:
  • headaches
  • fatigue
  • dizziness
  • dry mouth
  • muscle cramps
  • low energy
What's something people underestimate about Texas heat?
And what's your go-to recovery after a long day outside? Water, electrolytes, IV therapy, sports drinks, salty food… what actually works for you?

Summer 1969 on Wake Island. Went jogging with another pilot near mid-day. Near delirious; both of us. Needed the rest of the day and evening to recover.

Sometimes if you want a different answer, you have to ask a different question.

Got heat exhaustion backpacking out of Hauser Canyon on the PCT. Had to zero at Lake Morena.

Yep. For the 2023 game at Kyle Field against Auburn. The first aid folks got me back on my feet, though.

2007 Fresno State. People were dropping like flies all around me. I thought I would be one of them. Made it to the shade at halftime and downed a bottle of water that was cold when I got it and hot by the time I finished it. Went back out for the rest of the game and to be a part of the Great Aggie Migration. Then it rained after the game, just to remind us who was in charge all day.
