Is it Achane at the top? Others?

Seems like we've had some blazers over the years -- maybe not the absolute best at their positions, but killer speed.

For QB - Reggie McNeal is #1

Leyland had a 7th gear when he got in the open field. I recall him being sub 4.3 in internal laser testing adjusted to handheld. We have had some of the fastest players in NFL history.

Curtis Dickey FTW

Not once. Not twice. Three times an NCAA Champion in the 60meter dash a feat still unmatched today. A sprinter with rare acceleration and elite topend speed, especially for a guy of his size, he also clocked a 10.1 in the 100meter dash back in his hey day at A&M.

Dude looked like he was shot out a cannon on his TD run vs t.u. in '79. Ags won 13-7

I was going to say Dwayne "Hands of Stone" Goines as well. He ran something like a 4.2 40.

As for Greg Hill, he was nowhere close to that fast. The Google machine says he ran a 4.50 40 at the combine.

I don't know actual speed but I don't remember Glenn getting beat, that and he is another guy on punt returns that just needed a small hole and he was gone.

Fast White Boy- Chad Schroeder- 4.3

great article on this aggie QB (Westlake) turned receiver

Has there ever been a faster QB/WR connection in the history of football than Reggie McNeal to Chad Schroeder?.

Defensively, I was always blown away at how fast Dat was sideline to sideline.

^ true. he was the fastest player on the field because he actually went all out. Rarely do players actually run their fastest on D unless theyre chasing simeone after getting burned.

Same thing with Zach Thomas in NFL. Looked like a lightning bolt compared to faster players around him.

I'd say the backfield with Mike Mosely and Curtis Dickey was likely the fastest.

Two Refugio home town boys… Toya Jones and Ernest Campbell.

Never timed them in pads, but in today's world with cut off pants and fewer and lighter pads they would be hard to beat.

Vick and Davis were comparable, I imagine. But probably not faster.

Reggie McNeal was a speed demon. I was a freshman in '04 when he split the KSU safeties for the game clinching TD. It was just unfair. Darren Sproles had a lot of hype going into that game, but Reggie looked like the best athlete on the field that day. What sucks is that his speed worked against him later on. His senior year was sabotaged by Fran, making him run an option offense behind an average (at best) o-line. Then, the Bengals tried to make him a WR. Reggie was an incredible passer his junior year and should've been given a chance at QB. If he ran a 4.6 instead of a 4.3, he probably would've been given that chance.

Here's one I haven't heard mentioned yet: Danny Gorrer had blazing speed, and basically just that. The man couldn't tackle to save his life, but somehow hung on in the NFL for multiple seasons due to his speed.

Agreed but I also think it had to do with pursuit angles and field vision. JFF had this on offense as well.

I remember conversations when Ryan Swope ran a 4.34 40 at the combine about how he never got caught from behind. Now that I looked it up I did not realize Achane was only slightly faster, at 4.32.

I don't know their 40 times, but some current players' best 100 and 200 meter times are:

Brandon Arrington
!0.21
20.35
Jayden Warren
10.16
21.07
Jerome Myles
10.36
20.84

Arrington will run track in 2027 presumably with the goal of making the 2028 Olympics (?). One of his stated goals is to break the all-time NFL pro-day record for the 40-yard dash. He ran a 6.67 second 60 meter dash as a junior in high school and broke the high school record of Olympics sprinter Noah Lyles in the 200-meter dash, at the Arcadia International track meet.

Sirr Parker was plenty fast and didn't lose a step when he put on his uni.
I doubt his track times were comparable to these others mentioned but he was very 'football fast' .....
