If Tiger fans don't want to remember that they were super excited about hiring BK in 2022, then let's talk about something more recent with a little bit more raw data.
How about this last year? Going into BK's 4th season LSU sold the most season tickets since 2017 and one of the most in the history of the program. Y'all had the number one portal class and a returning senior QB and everyone was talking national championship in August.
3 months later your firing the coach and paying him over $50 million to go away. The point is nothing is guaranteed, that is all I have been saying.
So I guess it's probably more accurate to say that LSU's excitement about Lane was close to the excitement level about BK's program roughly 6 months ago.
I think you and magnoliatiger are both correct.
We as humans can be prisoners of the moment, and I think you're seeing a reaction to a new coach picking up the slack from where the previous coach failed.
Kelly wasn't working hard and the offense was terrible,
Kiffin comes in with offensive prowess and his staff immediately gets to work and puts in long hours rebuilding the roster, that's going to endear itself to the fanbase. There is also the aspect of getting one over on your rival (Ole Miss) and the media frenzy surrounding his exit that will make a fanbase "circle the wagons" so to speak.
There was a similar scenario when Kelly was hired. There was excitement about rebuilding the culture and program foundation and excelling in areas where Orgeron could not. There were also national media guys like Finebaum, Pate, Klatt, etc predicting Kelly would win championships at LSU. There was always an apprehension amongst some fans (and media) due to his age and lack of sec experience.
It's hard to put a value on the "excitement level", but I know the school has reported that season ticket requests are through the roof. Let's not forget that Lane and LSU fans are still in the honeymoon phase, he hasn't played a game yet.
