We'd still be playing in the playoffs….

One can hope Reed grows into that kind of QB over the next year and two

Did I miss where he got his current team into the playoffs? In a weak ACC (although Miami did outlast us by an entire touchdown) no less. I wish him well but kind of a nonsensical statement.

GT losses:
NCST 36-48
Pitt 28-42
Georgia 9-16

Miami wins:
NCST 41-7
Pitt 38-7

Maybe not playing against the Miami defense would be the bigger difference to advancing to the next round…

Sure, but it would not be very Aggie to keep the best QB.

One of our strongest traditions is to send the best ones packing.

That's because we have selective memory and don't hold those QBs to the same standards on other teams as we do when they play for us. Kyler Murray not withstanding. Although, you could argue that he went to a much easier league and may not have developed as well against SEC defenses.
JPN06
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Or it could be that if we had kept them and sent the other ones packing, the other ones would have been the ones to develop. Maybe it has been our coaching.

But the bottom line is that the guys have left as a whole have been better than the guys that stayed.

He's a good kid, but the SEC would have eaten him alive.

you're forgetting Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray. Even Kenny "Trill" ended up being better than Trevor Knight.

When you compare the guys who left specifically to the guys who stayed in their place you're right that it's LOL but not in a good way.

Which one of these was better than the one we kept?

Dustin Long--I really liked him and thought he was every bit as good as McNeal but obviously not as athletic
J. Showers < JFF
Kenny Hill-- did he really light it up at TCU?
Kyle Allen-- I thought he was really good but after he left here, meh, although he did make it to the pros
Kylar Murray--already discussed/more of an exception than a rule
Nick Starkel--thought he was really pretty good just needed more time but really didn't do squat when he left
Haynes King--had a really nice stint at GT but I would not say he is any better than Reed
Zach Calzada--really hasn't torn it up anywhere else/thanks for beating Bama though
Conner Weigman--decent at Houston but not exactly a world beater/I guess we'll see how he does vs LSU

Honorable mention: Eli Stowers--had a nice career as a TE

Who am I missing? I'm sure I'm missing someone.

Ah, I forgot Johnson and Henderson. Like both but they really haven't done anything either.

Kyle Allen played 3 games for UH before being benched. He was worse than meh.

Nope. You were referencing QBs we ran off because they were no good. That wasn't the case for Murray/Allen.

No doubt. He played in 10 games (with 10 interceptions) in 3 years at A&M, and then another 36 games in his 4th, 5th, and 6th seasons at GT.

It wasn't really until his 6th season he found his stride, with about 1k on the ground and almost 3k through the air while going 9-4 and losing to the only two teams that will finish ranked (BYU and Georgia) they played.

He was in the right conference.

"we" ran all of them off because we thought "we" were keeping the better QB or giving the better QB playing time.

Whether the coach at the time was right or not makes very little difference.

There's also the tendency to overrate the ones we kept and underrate the ones that left but if you look purely at the statistics and don't make excuses, it's not a pretty picture. I don't like it either, but i'm not going to pretend it's different to make myself feel better.

Klein would have Haynes running a similar offense to his k state heisman campaign. Haynes obviously has the body type to hold up to that stress, whereas they don't trust marcels body to hold up and they've made him a drop back passer

Weigman was trash dude. Nerfed our season before it started last year by not being able to even complete a pass against ND. Time to let it go.

Don't you think that he's learned a thing or two since 2012? If he hasn't, good riddance

This is such a trash take. Haynes King isn't good. He's still extremely turnover prone and still a subpar passer. As mentioned above, this is really the only season he's had any measurable success, and it came as a 6th year player and nearly 25 yo in a down ACC.

This is just plain wrong. Sumlin didn't want to lose those guys. All the others were irrelevant, as their subsequent careers showed.

And even if you want to deny that reality, Murray is the only one who hurt losing, so your original post is still trash.

If we had King this season Reed would still be playing because King has not proven he can stay healthy playing a SEC schedule. I love King's heart etc but he stayed hurt here. And even at GT he missed games.

Kenny Hill > T Knight
King > Mond
Weigman > Reed

Thats not even mentioning Murray and Kyle Allen. Say what you will about Allen but he has 19 NFL starts.

He missed 3 out of 39 games in the ACC over 3 years while logging 430 rushing attempts. He was pretty durable for the QB/FB hybrid role he played.

Maybe he could have developed into a poor man's version of the Vandy QB if given a 5th and 6th year in the SEC, but he needed to have been "portaling" up the ladder rather than down it for the opportunity and no SEC team was chomping at the bit after years 4 and 5.

We'd be 6-6
HK verses ACC and HK verses SEC are two different HK

He was given a great opportunity at A&M and it did not work out

watch the draft. The ACC defensively is not as physical. And has less defensive talent. I hate how our players who play bad or stay hurt transfer to lesser conferences do well and people thinks that means they would do that for us in the SEC. Yesterday's game showed what Haynes is. He can make big plays, he plays hard but has a costly turnover at the end. I love the guy for who he is. But he was not A&Ms answer at QB and is still not.
