Unfortunately. Like many of you, I'd like to see us pick up a solid, experienced QB in the portal, or at least someone who is good enough to compete for the job in the fall, but I'm not holding my breath because Elko seems enamored with him.

Sort of became obvious to me at the Samford game. Check out Elko's reactions to O'Neill's play around the 45:45 and 52:20 mark from the Samford game (shoutout WoodlandsAggie). In both plays, O'Neill throws a bomb instead of taking the easy throw underneath, something we see Reed do at least 3-4 times a game. Except here, when O'Neill comes off the field after the play, he's getting an earful from Elko, something I've never seen him do for Reed for making the exact same plays. O'Neill was then replaced by Hart for the rest of the half (though he saw some time in the second half of the game).

We know that Elko has the guts to bench his starter. We saw him do it to Weigman last year after a poor first half against LSU. With Marcel, it seems wildly different. Like he's been given the keys to the program and is immune to being held accountable for his poor performance.

Hope that I'm wrong, but really not expecting to see much change at the spot this offseason unless Marcel chooses to go elsewhere.

We lost yesterday because Miami was stacking the box. They wanted to stop the run at all costs. They did that knowing they were leaving guys open for Reed to throw to. They did that because they believed Reed lacked the talent to make throws under pressure. And you know what? The Canes DC was right.


Since Reed cannot consistently make throws under pressure in the toughest games he does not deserve to be QB1. We need to find a guy who can do that.

I'm no defensive wizard, but even I can look a a flag being blown straight and think to make the other qb make a throw into it. Yes, there were some short missed throws, but having to even think about wind completely throws off timing.

It's not easy to find a QB1 in the portal. OU needs one too because Mateer has some of the same issues as Reed (too many pics, poor downfield throws, poor decision making under pressure).

O'niell is 6'5" 220lbs. Put some time and effort into coaching this guy up!!! There's the Reed replacement for half the price!!!

How can we pony up $ for every position, except for QB. Reed cannot be the best we can afford.

In fairness- O'Neil has completely sucked when he has played for us. He had zero goodwill from Elko, at least from game results.

Frankly, Reed looked a lot like O'Neil the last two games. That is - he looked horrible.

Correct zone D rushing 4 getting to the qb last int we had 6 trying to block 4. Reed forced it to 17 and 3 was open to his left. Texas exposed how bad he is against zone D. Texas coaches were smart enough to do this the whole time. Miami did the same thing. Ohio st will beat Miami by 14-20. Reed was awful in the red zone threw over half of his ints in the red zone. He isn't worth a mil.
O'Neil is awful he was *****ed at b/c it was Samford and he threw a pick.

O'Neil isn't any good.

Reed lived on Craver and KC heroics most of the year. When our LOS throwing game got shut, Reed crumbled. His mechanics are terrible and his eyes panic, turnover machine. He's young but that was an epic collapse in play down the stretch.

Unless you're getting Dillon Gabriel like when he went to Oregon…which let's be honest…what killer QB would want to come to this offense at this point. You should stick with Reed imo. I would not move to a person with a limited body of work.

If true, then that's the second best A&M news today!

Drive after caused fumble Reed missed a wide open Concepcion he had to stop and try and catch an awful throw initially ruled a catch. Throws decent pass there it's a TD.

Elko has hitched his wagon to Reed, for better or worse. I hope he's right, but I have some serious doubts.

A lot of us wanted a portal QB last offseason.

Sticking with Reed is one thing. Letting him put you over a barrel and threaten you is another. You hurt the team more than you help it by doing that, and set a terrible precedent.

Anybody seen him and some team members partying, not after the game? F him. Refund the money and hit the road. All the culprits. Or maybe run at 4 am every day for a month until they puke their guts out. I am having a difficult time justifying continuing support of A&M football.

Actually the better QB we have is still in high school and hasn't hit our campus yet IMO…. And I think the one after him might be even better and bigger

Marcel played poorly. No one will deny that. But what I want to understand is what did the coaching staff (Collin Klein and others) really do to put him in a good spot. I watched Johnny struggle at times but Kingsbury was on the sideline with him talking him through what the next drive would look like or picking him up from the mistake he made. Klein was up in the box. Never near our QB who clearly needed someone backing him, hadn't trusted what he was seeing for a month. I know nothing about the new OC but hoping he brings a better skill set during the in game situations with these kids that play QB.

He would be fantastic at Kansas state where he only had to play against mid major competition…

"His camp" also realizes we are most likely to lose our best back, best WR, best TE, and at a minimum our 3 best OL. I am sure they feel they have all the cards. But with that said, he has yet to show he can take over a game with his arm. Let him test the market. I am sure he will do well at NCST, Baylor, Rutgers, etc.
