Unless you're getting Dillon Gabriel like when he went to Oregon…which let's be honest…what killer QB would want to come to this offense at this point. You should stick with Reed imo. I would not move to a person with a limited body of work.

So your thought is if we can't get a Heisman finalist, why bother? There are guys every single year that get picked up in the portal that come from relative obscurity and end up turning into stars (Trinidad Chambliss, Cassius Howell, etc). At a bare minimum, picking up a QB of that type at least forces Marcel to realize that he's not untouchable.

"His camp" also realizes we are most likely to lose our best back, best WR, best TE, and at a minimum our 3 best OL. I am sure they feel they have all the cards. But with that said, he has yet to show he can take over a game with his arm. Let him test the market. I am sure he will do well at NCST, Baylor, Rutgers, etc.

Thats not how you moneyball a good offense next season if thats what his camp thinks, by overpaying for a QB then shorting yourself at OL, TB and TE. That way your not great at any position

I doubt his camp thinks this. Its not reasonable

He aint going to the NFL. He doesn't have the size or accuracy they look for in the position. I doubt there is a NFL QB who ways under 200 lb, much less the 175 Reed weights. He has to cash in while he can. (I don't blame him for this) This is the best scenario for him. If we aren't willing to pay him the 3-4MM he wants, someone will.

Reed is Kellen Mond 2.0. He will progress and improve, but not significantly. But if he progresses like Mond, he'll be a good not great QB over the next two seasons.

Unfortunately our HS recruiting for QBs has been less than stellar, so I don't think we have much of a bench to draw from.

Unfortunately right now it's the devil we know versus the devil we don't know. So gonna have to ride w/ Reed and hope he progresses like Mond, but hopefully with a higher ceiling.

I've thought for a while his best shot at the NFL would have been at WR, not QB

Unfortunately. Like many of you, I'd like to see us pick up a solid, experienced QB in the portal, or at least someone who is good enough to compete for the job in the fall, but I'm not holding my breath because Elko seems enamored with him.

Sort of became obvious to me at the Samford game. Check out Elko's reactions to O'Neill's play around the 45:45 and 52:20 mark from the Samford game (shoutout WoodlandsAggie). In both plays, O'Neill throws a bomb instead of taking the easy throw underneath, something we see Reed do at least 3-4 times a game. Except here, when O'Neill comes off the field after the play, he's getting an earful from Elko, something I've never seen him do for Reed for making the exact same plays.

the 1st throw was an Interception and the 2nd throw was an incomplete on 3rtd down.
Think that might have had more to do with it

Need to be searching for a tool set like a Joe Burrow type.
Smart.
Accurate.
Passer first, but athletic and fast enough to hurt you with his legs when needed.

If you don't have it, surf the portal, and land in the best place you can.

They're paid athletes now, so the multi-year commitments are incredibly rare.
In a game full of mercenaries, buy the best ones you can.

I agree, makes no sense. If Reed wants the NFL he needs A&M to throw NIL at OL, TE and a powerful RB. Dilute that woth more money for Reed and he wont have a good year

he seems like a smart kid and his family seems smart as well. Just don't know why someone who I perceive as smart would make demands of an SEC program after the month he's had. Doesn't add up, unless him and his family are not as smart as I think they are.

We lost yesterday because Miami was stacking the box. They wanted to stop the run at all costs. They did that knowing they were leaving guys open for Reed to throw to. They did that because they believed Reed lacked the talent to make throws under pressure. And you know what? The Canes DC was right.

Since Reed cannot consistently make throws under pressure in the toughest games he does not deserve to be QB1. We need to find a guy who can do that.

Our top receiver (camera angle) was one on one with no safety help almost the entire game. We threw it deep once…:

If we can load up at OL, RB and TE next season Reed will have a lot less pressure and he'll perform much better. Maybe he does get drafted in that scenario

I was never a fan of Mond b/c Jimbo tied his hands behind his back so often, but he was much more accurate and made much better Decisions than Reid.

2020 vs Florida Mond and the 2025 team would be 13-0 with a SEC Title and sitting at No 1 with a bye this past weekend.

Monds deep ball over the shoulder with the WR running directly away was usually way off, as if the WR ran a 2.2 40 or was 10 ft tall. Marcel is more accurate on those passes but not a lot and has accuracy issues across the board. It just shows up more on deeper plays.

Of course good pass pro always helps. If I'm Marcel and want to see the NFL Id be far more interested in NIL for OL, RB and TE than getting a raise. Id like to see us land a tall outside WR or 2 also

I love the kid and love his attitude but you just can't perform the way he did ever since Mizzou and think you're entitled to any kind of job security.
And pffffft on O'Neal. Might have some arm talent but Brady Hart looked much more comfortable in his limited snaps running this offense. Now that Klein is gone, thank God, all this might change

Reed will never sniff the NFL, so it would make sense for them to try to cash in while they can

If I was Reed, I'd ask for a pay increase publicly and put the pressure on Elko. That would also tell other QB's that the A&M job is messy.

I don't know if I watched the same game. Miami didn't do a lot of risky stuff on defense like stack the box or blitz. They didn't need to, their DL dominated our OL. On pass plays, generally saw 6-7 guys in coverage.

Agree. #1 portal need is OL and it ain't close. Need to buy lots of OL starters good enough to block tu/Miami DLs and LBs.

Reed is servicable. The team is going to need to fill a bunch of holes. Elko has to get the next team to the playoff again.

Hart is very intriguing. He already looked much better than O'Neil in their limited play time. He is 6'4 and seems to have enough speed to pick up a first down running. If he has any accuracy at all and can complete the check down and WR screen (without the WR having to turn around and catch a low throw behind them) regularly then he is already ahead of Reed.
