I posted a similar thought on another thread.
Objectively, Reed is a "very good" but not elite QB and I agree with the sentiment it is time to look elsewhere.
Perhaps my only modification is simply "open the position" up again for competition. If Reed stays and proves he is the best to lead next year among our choices, fine. If he is the type that cannot take the competition (offended by that) and leaves, fine. We live in a new era thanks to the players wanting to be paid. It's just business now.
If we want to win a national title I do agree that while I think Reed is very good, he is capped out and likely not the QB to win a national title. I agree with Elko, we saw him improve a lot this year. He settled in more (freshman year was all over the place with flashes of greatness). But IMO, that "progress" stalled around LSU and Mizzou games, both competition of which weren't elite teams this year. He cannot hit a pass over 25 yards consistently enough that other teams will respect that when game planning (this has been the case for 2 years now). He showed great improvement this year in his checks and pocket presence, but then became inconsistent in the games that mattered. I think some laud his scrambling ability just wanting the "next Johnny Football." But in no elite program does it hinge on a scrambling QB - have to be consistent in all facets of the game and elite in at least most of them.
