The 2026 Offense side of the ball will require a lot of new starters / players.

There is a 2026 Financial Budget for what we will spend in NIL Dollars for the Offense.
Because we have so much to reload and QB is the most expensive position.

-- We will go after all of the other offensive positions and not an starting portal QB.

Here is what is departing:

KC Concepcion - WR
Dametrious Crownover - OL
Reuben Fatheree - OL
Ar'maj Reed-Adams - OL
Trey Zuhn - OL
Le'Veon Moss - RB
Amari Daniels - RB
EJ Smith - RB
Nate Boerkircher - TE
Randy Bond - Kicker

These departures will Free Up a lot of NIL dollars,
-- But we will be using these same dollars for their 2026 replacements.
---- Not for a starting QB.

Whoever ends up being the QB they will need to earn it. An open competition needs to start now for 2026.

Only upside of last couple weeks is reed won't cost near as much to keep

Marcel checks all the mobility boxes. But he is not a reliable thrower of the ball. I am nowhere near giving up on Marcel. He just needs to play better in the passing game. And, he needs a running game so they are not so dependent on him delivering in the passing game. He was asked to do it all against Miami. Also, for all his great mobility running, his pocket presence needs lots of work. He is as likely to step into the rush as much as stepping away and creating space for himself. Still, lots of talent there to work with, he just needs to get better in the passing game.

If you think that there will be an Open Competition for the QB1 spot -
-- You are living in the past.

In the new NIL era everyone has a QB1 with the most NIL dollars tied to that player.
All the other QB's on the roster fall way behind that dollar figure in their NIL deals.

No one today can afford 2 expensive NIL QB's on the team.

Nothing personal but IMO Terrible idea There are teams that would take Reed and we would be scrambling for a backup
QB2 needs to be ready to play in case MR is injured or regresses
Personally I'd like to see a QB3 "Bell-Dozer"* package like OU used to run Watched SFA playoff game a few weeks ago and they ran the Jumbo Package Big QB under center with 2 backs
I think that would be not that hard to install a 8 play playbook for that package and would be a nightmare to scheme against

Also known as the "Bill-Dozer" for King of the Hill fans

Yikes. That is a lot of the meaningful OL. I knew it (OL turnover) would hurt, but forgot about it while we were winning.

After what I saw the last 2 games, I'm not worried about losing OL. They got completely man-handled yesterday. My concern is the QB coming back next year. We always like to talk about all the money we have. It's time to go and buy the best QB in the portal. Then rebuild the DL and LBs with cash like Tard did.

Reed coukd have been balled out of lot with better play calling. Replacing Klein should help.

Some of your thoughts are correct. What you are missing is a 2 year starter at qb can't be missing short passes like Marcel continues to do. These are easy passes that have to be completed by hitting the receiver in stride. He was terrible these last 3 games by missing badly the easy passes.
If your qb can't hit the short easy passes the rest of the problems are just noise and are unimportant in the overall scheme.

Unfortunate, he's already tagged as the starter next year with no competition.

Reed has not only maxed his potential; he regressed. We are in serious trouble if this is his trend line.

And what sucks about NIL is it pretty much does limit you with one serviceable QB because someone is going to take your #2 if they can play at all.

We did enough to win yesterday everywhere but at QB play and Elko losing the coin toss on choosing which kicker to start.

I am pretty sure Bisontis won't be back either as he is rated 5th best OG for NFL Draft .
We will probably have to replace 4 starters on the OL but is that a bad thing after what we saw the last 2 games ?

We don't have all of this money that the OB keeps thinking that we have.
There are financial limits to everything.

Our key donors give their money to many different Texas A&M University
organizations other than sports.

In fact the majority of their monetary donations goes to something other than Aggie sports.
Like I said we have a financial budget for the offense side of the ball.
Elko must manage this budget to get the most out of it.

Exactly.

And let's argue for a second that we brought in someone else for open competition. Marcel would be gone so fast it would make your head spin. Very few of them actually want to compete.

So you make a bet and live with it. Or, you tell Marcel competition is coming in knowing he will leave.

Reed is not a championship level qb.
Way too inconsistent and doesn't show up for the big game.
I'm afraid he WILL be qb1 however.
I'm not impressed with the qbs on our roster

Unload as much of that budget on getting the best line of scrimmage kids...that is where we still fall short...specially on the offensive side.

If we don't bring in a legitimate contender for a starting QB via the portal (or at least have a serious open competition for QB1 amongst the QBs we already have), we will suffer for it.

Reed's inconsistency dramatically lowers our offense's ceiling. Even more so now that he's a known quantity to our opponents.

Buy a good QB (I gave up on Reed in the 1st half of the SC game - he regressed even more terribly since that half)

Buy some good quality OL and DL studs

The rest will take care of itself

You are correct. Marcell Reed is a very good QB and we don't need to replace him. I'm hoping our new OC and a new QB coach can help in his development and put him in better plays, especially in crucial game situations. We need to improve our running game more than anything else. Kiffin would take Marcell as his QB if he could.

Well, let's hope we are not replacing Klein with a "Klein Klone!"

If that's the case, then nothing will change!

Miami beat A&M at Kyle Field with a much worse QB than Reed.
TheRatt87
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Reed isn't inconsistent, he is inaccurate. Consistently inaccurate, as his completion percentage is within 0.5% between the last two seasons.

He is the most inaccurate 60% completion qb I've ever seen, as maybe 20% of his passes are actually on target. The rest force the receiver to stop, adjust, go to the ground, etc.

He simply can't hit a receiver on the move, even wr screens & swing passes to the rb - see both int's and the missed td to a wide open KC. He is only good on hooks & sticks where the receiver is stationary.

We all are directly focused on the portal, which is obviously needed. But the coaching staff cannot overlook development... need development for the offensive skill positions, we have potential weapons there.

Marcel must be replaced.
Logos Stick

Marcel is ranked 117th in catchable passes. 25% of his passes are rated as uncatchable. That's terrible.

He has a higher completion percentage when forced to scramble and throw than when he passes from the pocket.

He must be replaced.

Late AF on both the goal line throws.

Can't set his feet, accuracy issues, poor game manager.

I was a huge advocate and supporter and still think hes better than Weigman.

He really needs to take that NIL money and hire a QB coach in the off season.

We are terrible at evaluating and improving QB talent. We identify and recruit QB talent very well.

Then we don't start them or listen to them and they go off to other teams and thrive. Winning Heisman Trophy and championships while the QBs we chose over them stay and disappoint.

Kid can't throw. What do you do with a qb who can't throw a deep ball and sails passes 5 yards of a receivers head 10 yards downfield?
