Hire a new QB and bring Reed in as a Runningback who can occasionally toss the ball.

That $$$ well is far from being dry

Texag76 says we have all kinds of money. Which is it?

Reed seems to have zero peripheral vision. Never can tell if someone is coming from the side. On his fumble, how did he not know the defensive player was right there?

klein didn't force balls into interceptions or the myriad of other bad passes.

Reed isn't inconsistent, he is inaccurate. Consistently inaccurate, as his completion percentage is within 0.5% between the last two seasons.

He is the most inaccurate 60% completion qb I've ever seen, as maybe 20% of his passes are actually on target. The rest force the receiver to stop, adjust, go to the ground, etc.

He simply can't hit a receiver on the move, even wr screens & swing passes to the rb - see both int's and the missed td to a wide open KC. He is only good on hooks & sticks where the receiver is stationary.

Yeah this is the truth. And now there are two seasons worth of tape. Force him to operate in the pocket, put an athletic spy to contain the QB run game and let him throw into zone coverage. Next year will be a repeat of this past month. Every SEC team will play us the exact same way. We'll also be losing most of the veteran Oline and breaking in a first time play caller.

You are correct. Marcell Reed is a very good QB and we don't need to replace him. I'm hoping our new OC and a new QB coach can help in his development and put him in better plays, especially in crucial game situations. We need to improve our running game more than anything else. Kiffin would take Marcell as his QB if he could.

Very good? By what metric???

Reed needs to get a QB coach on his own and not rely on A&M to fix his mental and accuracy problems.

I hope he spends his summer wisely.

We would be absolute idiots to not address QB along with a ton other things.

This is no longer college football. The kids are taking money so they need to understand this is more business than it has ever been before.

At the very least Reed needs to know we have a plan for if he doesn't perform.

Why is it terrible? If Reed is our QB…then will improve and keep the job. I am not saying go to the portal. Just don't hand him the job. He hasn't earned the right to be given it after how he finished.

If you think that there will be an Open Competition for the QB1 spot -
-- You are living in the past.

In the new NIL era everyone has a QB1 with the most NIL dollars tied to that player.
All the other QB's on the roster fall way behind that dollar figure in their NIL deals.

No one today can afford 2 expensive NIL QB's on the team.

I think this is mostly true. I suppose you could try to have two expensive QB's, but it might be hard to accomplish. A high dollar QB is probably going to want some assurance of starting or significant playing time. Even so, having two is suboptimal use of your NIL dollars. I speculate Pribula at Missouri was either told directly or offered an NIL deal that clearly communicated to him that Missouri is putting their eggs in the Zollers basket.

I think in roster planning coaches and general managers will have to decide if they are happy with what they've got or see more potential in someone else, which can involve difficult decisions like Hurts/Tua and Stockton/Beck.

For us, it seems like you know what you've got with Reed. Are you comfortable rolling with that? If it requires more NIL than you think it should, do you just pay or let him go? Paying the backup, is another conversation. Last season we rented a senior, Zeno, for depth, presumably for a reasonable rate. You will presumably retain Hart or O'Neil and the freshman. Seems to me one of Hart or O'Neil may hit the portal.

Nothing personal but IMO Terrible idea There are teams that would take Reed and we would be scrambling for a backup
QB2 needs to be ready to play in case MR is injured or regresses
Personally I'd like to see a QB3 "Bell-Dozer"* package like OU used to run Watched SFA playoff game a few weeks ago and they ran the Jumbo Package Big QB under center with 2 backs
I think that would be not that hard to install a 8 play playbook for that package and would be a nightmare to scheme against

No team with serious National Championship aspirations would bring Reed in as QB. He could maybe get paid by a mid level team. It would be a blessing in disguise if another team poached Reed from us.

The only reason why he is slightly above 60% is because of the quick sideline passes he throws which he usually throws behind and low to the receiver so the play gets blown up.

If we tracked competitions over ten yards in the air I bet it is under 50%.

Kid can't throw. What do you do with a qb who can't throw a deep ball and sails passes 5 yards of a receivers head 10 yards downfield?

Don't forget throwing the ball into the dirt on a 5 yard check down to a RB that's standing in front of you

In case he regresses? He has regressed. Even at his best, he wasn't that good. At his worst (which we have seen in the last two games and the first half of the SC game) he is absolutely terrible. In the texas loss, there was a little more blame to go around. In the Miami loss, the blame is squarely on Reed. A mediocre QB wins that game by three touchdowns.

We all would like him to succeed. He seems like a good kid.

Unfortunately a key QB quality is accuracy and he doesn't have that skill. He has nearly reached his QB ceiling which was higher than 99% of us.

This is a business and A&M needs to make a business decision for the good of the team.

He should be welcomed to stay and compete at a significantly lower NIL earning. we should also try and upgrade the QB position just like we do every position in which we are weak.

Watch the last two games it's why he throws ints in the end zone. Zone defense forces him to be accurate which he is not and until he works on this part of his game it's all we'll see from now on.

Reed at times can make incredibly accurate 15-25 yard passes. Conversely, he makes many more inaccurate passes that are either too far behind or in front of the receivers, and additionally too high or too low. When Klein called WR screens, Reed forced the WR too jump for the catch, thus rendering the play useless.

He's a decent QB at best, but Decent isn't good enough to win it all.

Miami beat A&M at Kyle Field with a much worse QB than Reed.

I don't know. Just taking into account this season when surrounded with much worse talent than Beck had at Georgia he had a 74.5% completion rate, 26 TDs, 10 interceptions, and no fumbles lost. Reed had a 62.1% completion rate, 25 TDs, 12 interceptions, and 2 fumbles lost. Beck threw for slightly more yards in less attempts.

Where Reed separates himself from Beck is in the 400+ more yards he picked up on the ground. On the other hand Beck has 4 less turnovers and a 12%+ better completion percentage.

They're pretty close overall so I guess it boils down to what you value in your quarterback.

Please get 3 experienced OL contributors. We had talent but they did not always have the fight and focus we need. Without a great line we will not survive in the SEC

Reed didn't play great, but isn't the reason we lost. OL and not being able to run the ball killed the O. Way too much pressure on Reed and no real running game.

The short pass to KC that got overturned on review, that could have been a big play.
