I was merely showing his production levels in passing and running, and how it is virtually the same over his 3 years. He has maintained an average level of QB production. And many of the same mental and throwing mechanics issues are still evident. That is all.

You are the emotional one, trying to see improvements in things that are not evident in his actual production levels.

His production characteristics are what we are discussing. Especially as it relates to the high winning percentage teams. NOT the cream puffs. The last QB before MR was a master at putting up stats and wins against the cream puffs. MR is suffering from that to a large extent when playing above average teams. He needs to demonstrate improvement against higher echelon teams. I think we can all agree on that.

If Reed is going to be our QB going forward, we're going to have to get more out of the running backs and get more out of Reed using his legs. I don't doubt that Reed can continue to progress and shake some of his worst habits that cause the missed passes in the short game, but I don't think there's any version of him that's evolves into a credible deep threat or even a consistently efficient mid-range passer. The best that we can hope for is a more efficient, less turnover prone version of what he was this year. If we can't get things going on the ground against elite defenses, he's not going to be able to bail us out.

What's his completion rate over 20 yards? His 60% stat is held up by short yardage passes.

Reed was very strong through midseason in the 10-20yd range. Then defenses figured Klein out and we literally never adjusted a thing.

It is not revealed by his stats that MR made "gigantic strides". Minimal stride at best.

He still has the yips, happy feet, throws off balance off his back foot, can't process more than first read, sometimes a second, hesitates, throws erratic passes over the head of receivers, or wildly off target to the point receivers momentum causes them to fall down after catches (see Bussey and Owens). Still has only one speed, a fastball.

His minimal production improvements were:
1. Passing Percentage from 61.3% to 62.1%, or 0.8%.
2. Average yards per completion from 7.8 yards to 8.4 yards, or 0.6 yards.
3. He threw a TD for every 16 pass attempts last year, and threw a TD for every 15.08 pass attempts this year, or 0.92 attempts.
4. Passer rating of 142.1 last year and 148.2 this year, or 6.1 rating points.

His production declines were:
1. His INT per pass attempt fell from 1 INT per 40 attempts to 1 INT per 31.42 attempts, or 8.58 attempts.

His rushing Yards per attempt remained the same at 4.7 yards per rush attempt. He scored 1 less TD rushing this year on 12 fewer rushing attempts.

One could easily equate his minimal passing improvements to the improved talent at WR position, which enhanced catch rate and YAC. To log "gigantic strides" would take better fundamental QB play to include mental processing and throwing mechanics, which has mostly remained the same over his first 3 years in the program. He essentially is what he is.

I'm Reed agnostic, but it's bad faith to just cherry pick three losses and say "these are the games that matter." Like, Notre Dame wasn't important? Last year's LSU win wasn't important?

Stats tell a different story than anecdotes. Reed's overall performance is going to be a distribution from horribly bad to insanely good, but those are just the extremes. Every QB is going to have great plays and terrible mistakes, and you can't judge them on either. If you keep playing him based on a handful of great plays and what he might be you will easily find yourself chasing performance that will never exist.

Reed's distribution doesn't really seem to have changed much from last year. On any given play, his probability of success and the nature of that success is basically what it was last year. Maybe some marginal improvement, but he's not making huge strides.

Reed's run game success gives him confidence in his passing game in 2nd half of SC...Klein never seized what was working that day and instead pounded a square peg in a round hole

Elko developed Riley Leonard at Duke. He knows what it takes to win. He made portal signings at WR because it was a need and there was the opportunity to upgrade. We know how that went.

I imagine it will be the same process for QB. Will there be someone better than Reed available? Not sure. If so, great, would love to see it. If not, I trust that he will put Reed in the best position to improve and win for this team.

The rest of MR games were at least average. The 3 games I mentioned were the 2 rival games and the playoff game. And MR put up a goose egg on the board and looked bad doing it. Is that what you are satisfied with? No scoring from the QB over a 3 game total? What about the bad halves of other games as well? Where he looked lost? That came back to bite the team. We need consistency.

My post was not bad faith, it was analyzing production of the most important player/leader on the team.

Reed has improved many areas of his game, but the weak parts are still weak. They are also the more critical parts of what makes a good qb great, and its what you need to win it all.
If you just want to have a good season, Reed can deliver that. But hes not going to magically get better and we can't win it all while he is qb.
