We moved to Smithson Valley over 10 years ago. I love HS football so have had season tickets every year. They have a few players every season who'll play at the next level but are not loaded with star talent. They are just a well coached and well disciplined team who performs well every year. Congrats on two in a row

I don't know when someone in our group first noticed it, but the Joaquin coach had his QB come over for a chat before every play. At one point, one of our group timed the gap between play end and play start: play end at 7:40, play start at 7:11. Twenty-nine seconds. I forgot the score (six games in three days will do that), but Joaquin was playing like they were two touchdowns ahead rather than two touchdowns behind.

Close to 200 yards of offense, he should have been MVP. The oppo QB was 8-24, and the MVP was the guy who was lucky enough to be in the vicinity of five of those (IIRC) and make the catch. He also threw a TD pass. But Barnett was the one that kept the game a game until the end. Reverse Chuck Howley is called.

I didn't realize Ray Gates left NC too. That guy is a hell of a coach.

There's always a lot of shuffling, but with those two big ones open, it'll be more than normal.

To the extent HS recruiting matters anymore this is a great pickup for SMU.
