WSJ --

"Myles Garrett is on pace to break the record for most sacks in a season. Playing on one of the league's worst teams makes that feat even more astounding.

Ever since defensive end Myles Garrett entered the NFL as the No.1 overall pick of the 2017 draft by the Cleveland Browns, opposing teams have done everything in their power to stop him.

It hasn't worked out especially well.
...
Through 13 games, Garrett has already recorded 20 sacks, which puts him on pace to smash the record of 22.5. That he's done it on a team that has managed only three wins so far doesn't merely mean that the Browns are in the process of squandering a season for the ages. It means he's poised to break a blue-ribbon record despite his own team undermining his efforts to get there.
...
In effect, Garrett is about to break the sack record despite having fewer opportunities than any of his predecessors."

His drive to be the best of the best, despite playing on a terrible team and having a guaranteed contract as the highest paid non-QB in the NFL -- Rough tough! Real stuff! indeed!

Gig 'em, Myles.

There was a question mark, btw. :-) Being stuck in Cleveland is tough on the career. Or just living there - about 1.5 years (two winters) sucked.

Kevin Smith doesn't get the love he should. Yes he was surrounded by other greats but he was one himself.
A lockdown corner with 3 Super Bowl wins (one less than the 4 guys listed above COMBINED) in 4 years and a part of some of the greatest defenses ever assembled.

The only defensive player I've ever watched and deliberately focused on every time he was on the field was Von Miller.

I'm assuming being on a bad team gets him more defensive opportunities.

On the other had, if they're so bad that the other team just runs out the clock that would hurt his chances for sacks.

The second option is the operative one. No need to pass, especially mid to 20+ yards when they can just run. So, much less opportunity for sacks.

Dat guy named Nguyen recorded over 500 career tackles. to put in perspective York. 4 year starter if he comes back next season will be on pace to surpass 300 career tackles. Dat nguyen is not the best pro to ever play defense at texas a&m but i would be hard pressed to say anyone was better while at texas a&m

He is certainly one of best if not best!

I saw Von win a Super Bowl by himself...that is kinda crazy.

That achilles injury hurt me something terrible. Would have loved to have seen Pup at full speed for another 6-8 years.

There's an article about this very thing out either yesterday or today. He had 3 TFL in addition to his sack this week. All 3 TFL on running plays when the other team was trying to run out the clock. His Coach recognizes it. Unfortunately they suck and he signed a crazy rich contract that makes it hard for Cleveland to move him.

It was tough to watch Myles play in college because he was literally being held by 2-3 people almost every play. I still have never seen anything like it. Just a complete game wrecker on the defensive side of the ball.

If we're talking strictly pro-career, Myles is in the discussion and will likely end his career with the eye-popping stats and in the NFL HOF, but I'd probably give the edge to Von. He almost single-handedly won Manning and Kubiak that Super Bowl in Denver. Elite player that was elite in the biggest game of his career. Unfortunately for Myles, I'm expecting any playoff games, much less super bowls, while he's stuck in Cleveland.

I'll get some hate for saying this but often feels like Myles best games are in blowouts (maybe a factor of playing in Cleveland).

Always thought Von stepped up more when the game was on the line.

No one mentions the SINGLE NFL HOF member from Texas A&M ???

Yale Lary: Defensive Back for the Detroit Lions (19521964), 9-time Pro Bowler, and two-time NFL Champion. Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1979.

Gotta think that the HOF membership puts him pretty much near the top.

for just college career...

Von had an incredible stretch of games during A&M's 6-game winning streak to close the 2010 regular season -- especially against OU, Nebraska, and t.u. -- he was awesome

whereas Myles' college career mirrored the Sumlin era. He was great in the non-conference and early in the season but then faded or had quiet second halves of seasons.

this may come as a surprise...but Myles only had 12 sacks vs. SEC competition during his 3 years.

Cashius Howell had 8 1/2 sacks vs. SEC competition this year alone

The crown is Von's, but MG is coming to take it.

Miller would be chasing the greatest in Ray Childress, if the Oilers hadn't forced him to play tackle almost his career. He was such a great defensive end, that he also played at the tackle position AND became a multiple all-pro while playing there out of position. Put Miller at tackle and see how his stats would compare to Childress. Oilers were such a waste of talent. It's a shame.

I'd argue the opposite. Since the Browns' offense can't stay on the field, the defense has WAY more opportunities

When your team is losing most, if not all of the game, you will have much less opportunities to rush the passer because the team playing from ahead will run the ball more.

For NFL careers it is/will be Myles as best Aggie player ever. If Myles retired today it would be Von.

Achane is almost the best Aggie NFL RB ever already.

Johnny Holland, #2 all time for tackles behind Dat. He was the heart and soul of the Defense when the WC was born.

Aaron Wallace, all time sack leader with 42. For perspective, Von with 33.
