Starting to build a little bit of history with Miami (and Notre Dame?)

This will be our 3rd time playing them in 4 years, after we split the 2022 and 2023 meetings. We also played them when I was a student back in 2007 and 2008.

I decided to look at A&M's most played opponents historically. I was curious as to whether there is another power conference team (or Notre Dame) we have played more frequently that is not a current or former conference mate. Here is what I found:

1. Notre Dame - 7 meetings, 4th since 2000. Most recently in 2024 and 2025.
2. Miami - CFP will be 6th time overall, 5th since 2000
3. Clemson - 6 meetings, 4th since 2000. Most recently in 2018 and 2019.
4. UCLA - 6 meetings, most recently in 2016 and 2017. Previous meeting was 1997.

I thought it was interesting that we have played all of these teams fairly recently too. I think it also shows that for out of conference scheduling or postseason meetings, we have mostly scheduled G5 and FCS teams, or scheduled/played regional teams that are currently or were conference mates (scheduling teams like Louisiana Tech, Rice, or SMU. Playing Arkansas when we were in the Big 12). Here are some other schools if you remove my restrictions:

Tulane - 13 meetings, last played in 1968
Louisiana Tech - 9 meetings, last played in 2012
Louisiana - 7 meetings, last played in 2017
Tulsa - 7 meetings, last played in 1999

Every other school we have played 6 or more times is either 1) currently in the SEC, 2) was in the Big 12 with us, 3) was in the SWC with us, or 4) No longer plays football

Notre Dame will fall under this category soon.

It is interesting how we seem to never schedule anyone from the Big 10. I've always thought OSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, etc. would be really cool places to get play at and then host at Kyle

Hopefully this changes in the near future, with the SEC and Big Ten the obvious two big dogs.

Never schedule La Tech again over the schedule switch they pulled in 2012, plus they are a team that plays dirty.
