Staff: feel free to delete if you have a master plan for this.
Apparently C J Baxter is in the portal. Do we recruit him?

Maybe. But in this era of college football, if there's an available player out there who would be an upgrade to what we have here then you have to go after him. With Moss, Daniels, and EJ on the way out I think we absolutely should buy an experienced RB for '26.

I disagree with this mindset when it comes up every year. We operate in a world of finite resources. We have to identify our priorities and then spend accordingly. If we throw money at every really good player in the portal, we'll have less to devote to our positions of need (like OL, DT, maybe a WR to replace KC). And then you end up with glaring weaknesses.

Type 2: Guys who were highly ranked recruits in high school but ended up buried on the depth chart at elite programs (Amari Niblack, Julio Humphrey)

I'll give Elko credit. He freaking nailed the portal last year. KC, Craver, Boerkircher. I guess Howell and Hayes were in his first portal haul.

After going through a few cycles of this now, it seems like, generally speaking, there are two types of players that end up in the portal:
Type 1: Guys who were not highly sought after recruits coming out of high school who found success at a G5 school or a mid to bottom tier Big 12/ACC school and are looking to level up and play in the SEC on a championship contending team (KC Concepcion, Cashius Howell)
Type 2: Guys who were highly ranked recruits in high school but ended up buried on the depth chart at elite programs (Amari Niblack, Julio Humphrey)
It seems like the first type are more likely to be major contributors at good SEC programs. There are always exceptions, but I will probably be more excited about portal additions of the first type moving forward.
