Yeah, they got hosed...and it's funny. I can have both feelings with a clean conscience.

They didn't get hosed.

They objectively did. They ended up at #11.

The #20 and #24 teams got in ahead of them.

Thus, they got hosed. It's still funny and I"m enjoying it because f* that school, but they got hosed and it's not arguable.

Be careful what you wish for. If they join the BIG it separates them from the SEC, as Michigan, Michigan State USC and Penn State are not going to stay down for long.

While they've always played Navy, they had a tougher schedule pre Kelly. They signed that ACC deal under his watch.

They have a real coach again, so not sure they are all that afraid of anyone.

ND will not join the Big10. That conference has three good teams and may have a couple more in the near future. There is no way ND wants to put its privileged position in jeopardy. This year, the join records of Notre Dame's opponents in their wins was 46-61.
And a quarter of those wins were just one team… Us.

ND isn't going anywhere.. the last time they were screwed out of a chance at a national title was way back in 1993.

Generally, they get the benefit of the doubt.. like in 2020 over A&M..

Yet they all still figured it out and FBS can't because of absurd special riders.
By allowing everyone and their dog into the playoff.

NFL equivalent playoff in college is 60 playoff teams.
NBA equivalent is 90.

More teams the more rounds required and football is not a sport conducive to playing a ton more games than they already do.

100% of the teams with a realistic shot at winning the championship are in.

Yeah, I'm not saying to expand it. I don't think they should. The three obvious no brainer changes to make right now for immediate improvement:

1. Remove affirmative action for G5 schools.
2. Kill the Notre Dame carve out.
3. Publish the selection criteria before the season starts and be transparent. Every other league is transparent with their selection criteria.

I frankly don't think anyone below about 8 has any chance of wining it all anyway so you could reduce the number for all I care.
The carve outs are fine. The process is never going to be transparent unless they go back to computer selection. Once you get past a 4 team playoff it becomes an egregious mess of high end mediocrity arguing for a spot that no matter who gets in and who didn't get in would almost certainly not change the final outcome of one of the top ~6 teams winning the title.

Bitterness and disappointment is good for people.

ND withdraws from bowl game consideration

Between not playing in a conference championship game by their own design and withdrawing from any bowls they were determined to preserve the 2 loss season and to not play another good team no matter what. 1-2 was bad enough.

Taking that Top 20 USC win and going home.

Sorry, but a lone carve out for Notre Dame that leap frogs them above other teams is not fine. You won't be fine with it next year if we end up 11 and they end up 12 and get in and we don't.

It's total horse*****

The #20 and #24 teams getting in are total horse**** as well. It's blatantly illogical and stupid. No other sports league has such idiocy that I can think of.

Maybe not this ND thread, but a previous poster had it right when he said that the conference commissioners should be raising hell about this special carve out for a team that won't join a conference. It's a lot harder when somebody else picks your schedule with the home and away games. ND rolls their own and still loses the only two games that mattered. Why should they get a special deal?

Agreed on that. I was talking about the 5 conference champions getting a spot. Notre Dame is not a conference unto themselves.

It happens all the time. The AL East could be brutal. Yankees, Red Sox, etc just take turns beating each other. But the division has several great teams with good records. The AL Central stinks. Twins win the division even though they are barely above .500 ball.

That is a terrible comparison. The Twins would have still played 30 games against AL East opponents. Between that and a lot less talent discrepancy you can't compare the Pros to college.

SEC should collectively boycott Notre Dame. Big 12 and ACC too. Force them to be the Big Ten school they should be. Big Ten should say no games until you're a full member. G5 or shut up and participate in reality.

I went to comment on Jason Gay's op/ed on ND's exclusion. Tried seven times - editing out anything that might sound confrontational or cursing...got rejected by the bots. I even shortened it to two brief but negative-towards-ND sentences: Rejected.

Then i posted "I love Notre Dame!!" And it was accepted instantly.

Ohio St never should have been allowed in. Their conference even changed the rules that year so they could play in the conference championship game to help their weak-ass case.

Much as I love when we beat LSU, I don't despise the corn dogs near as much as I do OSU, PSU, Notre Dame, and tu.

So you're saying that the B1G and ND will actually have to play decent teams for the majority of conference play? I'm for it.

B1G changed their rules a couple of times that season. They thought they would be the leader and all of the rest of the conferences would fall into line. But the SEC said furk that! We want to play football and set their conference only schedule which was still more games than the B1G had.

But as usual, the Committee and ESPN decided to not "penalize" tOSU because their conference commissioner was a little scared ninny. And the ACC also lobbied hard on ND's behalf that year which makes it ironic they are so pissed at the ACC for promoting an actual conference member, Miami in the same fashion.

Typical ND entitlement, need special treatment over their own nominal conference mates.

We don't think that ND's choice to play half their games with ACC opponents was motivated by some noble (like a gift to the ACC) reason, do we? Why didn't they choose to do the same with Big10 or SEC opponents? Or even the BIG12? We know why and they know why. It was to find the easiest way to get into the CFP while creating the illusion that they were actually IN a conference when they weren't. Screw them.

Nobody else would accept them for the other sports without it. While it isn't impossible to find 12 games for football, imagine doing a women's basketball schedule.

Yes

Bama deserved to be in over both of them easily.

Vandy head to head win.
Notre Dame beat one top 25 and the rest of their schedule was garbage. Bama beat 4 ranked SEC teams in a row. One being the SEC champ.

Don't assume that ND is the default school of choice for Catholic fans. I'm Catholic and honestly don't know many, if any, ND fans. They're Aggies, LSU, Tech, Nebraska, etc. fans that are much more likely to hate on ND than pull for them. Especially after this tantrum episode.
