This is what happens when you are not in a conference and can "select" who they want to schedule.

If Notre Dame wants to prevent this in the future they need to schedule playing better teams instead of being cute by being independent and playing mostly second tier teams.

Arbitrarily switching them at the last poll was ridiculous.. Don't care about head to head, as close loss on the road settles nothing.
It does matter when its a choice between the two alone, which is what it boiled down to.

Be careful what you wish for. If they join the BIG it separates them from the SEC, as Michigan, Michigan State USC and Penn State are not going to stay down for long.
While they've always played Navy, they had a tougher schedule pre Kelly. They signed that ACC deal under his watch.

They've been courted for years to join the ACC where they have a non-football sport relationship. With that conference's results this year they might up the ante.
Sidenote: if you think tu's whining is pitiful (which it most certainly is), you should see the ACC whiners if you haven't. It's even more pitiful than the sips lol. Only one representative and that one's not the conference champion!

ND will not join the Big10. That conference has three good teams and may have a couple more in the near future. There is no way ND wants to put its privileged position in jeopardy. This year, the join records of Notre Dame's opponents in their wins was 46-61.
I am highly surprised that the ND conglomerate could not pull it across the CFP finish line. The howling discontent over being left out will intensify over time. Having two, token, second-tier teams make the playoffs greatly aggravates ND's grief.
ND withdraws from bowl game consideration
Pretty much the only thing the committee did right was NOT rewarding the ND model of play two real games at the start of the season (losing both) then feasting on cupcakes the rest of the season.
