Anyone with the thought the team was playing themselves out of the CCG is a moron and likely didn't watch the USCe game.

We had a weak game plan to start the game and once Reed hurt his ankle, the play list was reduced Injuries are expected and we didn't develop a backup QB worth sticking in the game that could manage the game.

We got beat by a team that was better prepared and wanted it more. They had nothing to lose and everything to gain and played better football.

The team and the coaches all played tight. They didn't play with confidence outside of KC.

Could not agree more.
It was so frustrating to watch knowing what we are capable of.
Been very disappointed in Craver the back half of the season as well.

OP's premise is ridiculous - some of the "bonus" triggers in Elko's existing contract (and also for the staff now) would've kicked in by getting to the SEC championship game and also for winning it.

So - besides the competitive desire to win and beat a rival - there was also $ on the table as well for the coaches.

was that fg attempt in the red zone (does it have to be w/in the opponent's 25 or 20 yd line)?.

Anyway, how many red zone fails have the Ags had this season? Seemed like a lot.

"not saying this actually happened"

I don't think and hope it did not occur either.
It is a hypothetical thought and attempt to solicit others thoughts/perspectives, gather input, spark conversations..

It is not a stance, just simple conversation is all.

I don't think so OP. Surely not, right? However, it is very hard to understand how we could coach so badly and so opposite of what brought our success, accidentally. Just a brain dead coaching effort, which happens sometimes I guess. Awful!!

I surely hope not as well, not who we are as AGGIES!
It just seemed to drastically off from what we have seen all season, like a completely different game plan and team.

Again, not saying that is actually the case but could there have been instructions from Elko to staff to not pull out all the stops for this game?

After seeing Elko in the presser, that seems very unlikely. He was pissed and embarrassed..

His being "pissed off" schtick is growing old already. He had one ****ing job and failed miserably at it again on national tv to his in state rival. He and Klein **** down their leg in the biggest game of the season thus far. The fans should be mad, he should be embarrassed

He's going to be the first coach to get A&M to the playoffs. No, he did not have 1 job. He had 12. He went 11/12.

Go cry somewhere else.

Same gameplan we have had all year. Reed has lived on passes near the LOS and only run when in dire need. It worked really well until last night

Reed has passed in the mid game and hit plenty of deep shots all year. The difference last night was he faced a DL that was able to move the pocket and get him uncomfortable.

Read it. You're wrong. Winters and champion mindsets don't plan to lose.

If you want to compare to NFL, we just shifted ourselves into the wild card race opposed to a guaranteed slot. The SEC CG isn't a meaningless post season speed bump. There's real money on the line for the program and the school to make that game.

The results may have been flat, but that was no way the plan.

I don't think they planned to lose.
I think being guaranteed a spot in the playoffs affected their game plan and team attitude towards this game specifically.

If you can't get up for this game, you don't understand football in this great state. Good lord some of you people. We dominated the first half and i think the team thought they had it. Sark changed his game plan and out coached Elko and co. Then Reed started to feel the pressure and forced the ball and ball game. That pick inside the 5 is inexcusable. His escability is top tier, but his decision making is not. He could have thrown 5 picks against USC in the 1st half if there D backs could catch.

Yup, borderline conspiracy theory... two thumbs up on the tinfoil hat.

The only thing we held back (maybe) was Le'Veon.

Other than that, we just got beat.

I kept beating myself over the head wondering why we didn't use the exotic blitz packages we have all year in the second half.

I felt we took that exact approach on purpose. Let's beat them with vanilla and if we can't we get to rest for three weeks.

It just didn't make sense compared to what we typically do.

Exactly…I mean, why would you keep running Owens when he clearly wasn't 100%…I mean EJ had the touch…I don't get it. Plus the defense looked like Swiss cheese. Very lethargic and not to mention the struggling OLine and our kicking game was atrocious!

Right. Because it's a solid strategy to intentionally tank going to the first conference title game in 27 years becauee you're certain you're going to win the whole thing. Anyone with a brain expects our trophy case to stay empty.

I absolutely don't think anything was tanked, just looked to me like a lackadaisical approach/game plan.

Please explain not blitzing in the 2nd half like we have all year. We put pressure on Manning in the first half and he couldn't do anything. He ran up the middle when we rushed 3 or 4 and dropped everyone else which was not our typical approach.

If Elko is as smart as we're told there is zero chance of this. He was fighting to play in the SEC Championship and a bye in the first round of playoffs. That and the game being "the game" makes it mind boggling that he might attempt such a gambit. Sadly, he and Klein simply got out coached, again.

What was our game plan? I mean, essentially zero down field passes, no creativity, no establishment of run game, very little use of Marcel legs (I get it he was banged up a little).
Defense played semi-well but felt like they being preventative most of the night, just trying to keep big plays from happening.

Did you watch the game? There were plenty of down field passes called. They were dropping everyone into coverage. How many times did we have a pass play called and our QB had quite a bit of time? SEVERAL. Our coaches know what the hell they are doing, and they really care about winning and pouring into our young men & program. The culture is as good as it has ever been. Our players have shown more Aggie spirit than I can remember in the last 20 years. They care about each other.
