Certainly could have happened, but Elko was never going anywhere.
His raise and extension (which is really just a 2 year extension) was warranted but had nothing to do with him maybe talking to or leaving for PSU. IMHO.

I have zero sources, but two things are undeniable:
1. They have to hire someone, and
2. If that someone isn't perceived by their fans as being better than James Franklin, the fans will be p***ed. Like "let's Woodward our AD, too" mad.

If Yardbarker is your source, re-read the article. What Yardbarker says and what you're saying are NOT the same.
There is no evidence or any public claim that Mike Elko was offered the job. It merely says he was in consideration.
Sydney Sweeney is in consideration, too, if you know what I mean. That's all it equates to. "We thought about it."
A&M's timing took Elko out of consideration.

I have no doubt they tried to get all 3 coaches that signed extensions already. That's why extensions are signed during the season, someone is trying to get your guy.
