And per Mike (and Michelle) Elko, They aren't leaving - Said on the Elko Radio Show a couple weeks ago.

Just because he's their top target doesn't mean they have a realistic chance.

You should always try and make your coach happy when they are in demand.

Don't care that he is at the top of their list. A&M is a better job. I am not saying he won't leave because family, personal preferences play a roll too.

But I am sure he will be taken care of financially at A&M and if he leaves it won't be because of money or Penn State is a better job.

Target means wish. It doesn't mean coach.

He should be a target for an competent coaching search.

His contract auto extends for a year any year he hits any of the many performance bonus opportunities. That will happen this year.

His agent will ask for a raise of either the base or performance bonus amounts after the year because even if he maxes his performance bonuses he wouldn't be the top paid coach that year. Which defeats the purpose of a good coach being willing to accept a lower base for big money performance incentives.

He probably deserves that.

Yes, you should worry more. You should worry so much that you don't have time to pollute Texags with your ramblings and insecurity.

Elko already told us this is a waste of brain space. Come season's end it may or may not be but why worry about it now.

I think about this way, we have a coaching staff that is performing so well that other premier programs fans want to talk about poaching them. How is that not a good thing?

Their people are talking to his people, I'm sure. A&M has everything a coach could want, assuming the BMAs don't piss him off with their meddling.

Penn State could offer him a "blue blood" status that A&M has not achieved yet, that is advantageous to a program. Playoff justifications, media bs, that kind of stuff. Other than that A&M has everything needed to be successful.


I wouldn't be worried, but you never know.

Elko is a class act, and I am confident he will not let these off the field distractions affect the team. It is an unfortunate side effect of success. Every year Saban was leaving Alabama, every year the team stayed focused on the challenge at hand.


Elko has infinite more class than Schlossnagel.

If we beat SC then Elko has gotten us into the playoffs and gotten whatever his bonus is m. At that point you literally just offer him whatever he needs to stay.

I'm completely fine paying exorbitant money for coaches that actually deliver results. It's the doing it before they do anything part that I think bothers all of us.

Things to keep in mind when you read these unsubstantiated rumors (i.e. wishful thinking).

The reason they think Elko is attainable is because he's a Penn grad. Not Penn State - Penn. He's not even from Pennsylvania, he's originally from New Jersey. So there's false flag number one. Secondly, the notion that he would move back for family reasons. To my knowledge, all of his immediate family lives elsewhere (Florida or one of the Carolinas) or in College Station. So he wouldn't be moving back to be "closer to family" because they're not there anyway. So all things being equal, you have to look at A&M and Pedo State and determine which is a better job. There's no objective advantage to being at Penn State over A&M. Those days died with Joe Paterno.

I have no doubt there will be some sort of contract extension or revisions made at the end of the season. Does Elko really strike you as someone who would want to deal with that type of noise while he's in the middle of a potential NC run?

Come on, man.

If he decides to leave for that job, it won't be because of money - as Texas A&M will outbid anyone.

Thus, if it is something other than money, there is nothing we could do about it.

So... not worried.

On this whole why hasn't he signed an extension yet thing. It is in Elko's financial interest to wait until the season is over to do anything. Every win since LSU probably raises his new base by at last $250k maybe $500k. What happens if he wins the SEC title? What happens if he wins a National Championship? What do those raise his salary by? I figure those two events alone are worth millions to Elko.

We will be paying a lot more money but right now the sky is the limit and there is absolutely no reason for Elko to sign now.

man the college football world has changed a lot over the last couple of years. a few years back this might have be a concern but we are now a destination job. very few if any leave destination jobs. elko ain't leaving. penn at is not a better job

Penn State fired their coach after he made it to the semifinals the year before. They're going to have to guarantee a ton of money to the next coach with that high of expectations.

But I also think that him and his wife being here for 3 years previously as DC, means they have already some good connections here.
His wife saying we aren't leaving is a very good sign.

I see people post stats like this all the time. Tu people will also post stats about how many wins tu has compared to A&M. Young coaches like Elko don't care about games played before he was even in college. They look at the situation as it is now. Fans might think psu has some great advantage but young coaches and their families only care about things current to their life now.
