Our first drive of the 3rd quarter, KC took a jet sweep around the right side and on the tackle, a LSU player was a bit slow to get up. Then as we came up to the line for the next play, he sat down and they called the trainer staff out and stopped the play.

How is this different that our play where they made us burn a time out and later gave Elko the 50 k fine?

They were charged a time out...

Correct.

Also, LSU dude wasn't told to go down by sideline staff. He legit got his bell rung.

Ok,

My bad, I didn't see that they were charged a TO.

Thanks

Still waiting for the SEC to charge them a $50,000 fine like they did us.

We were charged a TO as well as a fine, no?

Yeah, but apparently, there's video evidence of one of our sideline staffers motioning for our guy to go down.

LSU dude did a faceplant on the turf and rung his own bell. He wasn't faking anything, hence no fine.

We don't know that. Since we got "busted" it would be easy to have one player look towards the sideline for the signal then have another player designated as the "injuried" player. The first player receives the signal from the sideline and he alerts the other player to go down.

Not saying LSU faked it but he was up walking around and then after the ball was set he went down. Could be he thought he could just walk it off then realized it may be more serious.

He was concussed for sure. Could see him rubbing his eyes. You know his vision was blurry. No problem with him sitting back down.

You realize, Chappell was out for over 6:40 of game clock after his "fake" injury. He tried to tap out on the previous play and the one he finally sat down on. A player being told to get down by coaches/trainers when they are injured isn't unusual.

Even the teams statement said we weren't using it to feign an injury.

Oh, BTW, the legit LSU injury to Delane caused him to be out for six minutes of game time.

Edit for poor spelling.

If he was concussed, why did he return so quickly?

Watching on TV initially I saw him "randomly" sit down and started making my snide remarks.

Then all it took was the replays of:
- His involvement in the previous play
- His immediate reaction to the faceplant
- The up-close angle of his face, blinking slowly and trying to shake something off

...to realize he was in no way faking an injury. I retracted all my remarks and sat my happy ass back on the couch.

If all of that was his meticulous playing out of gamesmanship, then consider me fooled.

I doubt he was concussed. Ever had your bell rung? You don't have to be concussed to be out of it for a little bit. You could tell when they showed the replay of him walking around after the tackle, the way he was blinking and adjusting his helmet, he wasn't right.

You're right, he wasn't concussed. He got is bell rung and sat down late, just like Chappell. Both players were out for approximately the same amount of game time. Hence my issue with the fine.

I don't necessarily disagree. Another poster claimed after Chappell's injury, there was video evidence of a sideline staffer motioning for him to go down. Whether that was to fake an injury, the staffer thinking he was hurt and needing to sit, or something else the SEC offices misinterpreted as the staffer telling him to fake, I don't know. I'm just saying LSU didn't get fined because it was pretty clear the LSU dude wasn't faking it.

Elko just wanted to push the envelope and see what Birmingham would do if we had a called lay down. Good info to have moving forward.

I don't think either were faking it.

But only we got fined. It's BS.

A concussion and getting bell rung are the same thing. If he was concussed he shouldn't have gone back in.

Hope he just had turf get up into his eyes.

I don't think he got concussed; I think one of his contacts got knocked out or out of place. Jives with the video I watched.

Yeah, he announcers did not point out that a timeout was charged.

I only knew because I kept looking at the screen to see if a timeout came off the board for lsu and it eventually did before the next play was run

The sideline coach was telling Chappell that if he was not 100%, but couldn't get substitute in time, that he should just go down like any other injured player.
