Wow... just wow.

For you youngs, you are finally feeling and experiencing what we took for granted. It feels like the early 1990s again. A couple other notes....

• Reed: I was a critic last year and early part of this. The young man has REALLY come along. Should be in the Heisman discussion. His touch on the deep pass is still suspect. But then no one is perfect and he's progressed and mastered a lot of other details (game management, checks, then is deadly still with legs). But more importantly to me, what a fantastic young man. The more I hear him in interviews and think about the team vibe we are seeing this year, the more confident I am that much of it emanates from him. Solid Aggie and ambassador for the University we love so much, deep pass or not.
• Wrecking Crew: I may be pulling that label out soon again. Still not what we saw in the 1990s. For you youngs, we used to go to Aggie games to watch our Defense. Yes, they were THAT good. But damn, what I saw in 2H last night... they "may" be back. [Context: When first written, hadn't put my finger on why they seem so good yet so different - I agree with the comments that the game is just different with rules, and we should unleash the Wrecking Crew moniker.]
• Elko / Team Overall: So many weapons and it's obvious now Elko has set the culture. Regardless of what happens the rest of the season, I am a confirmed Elko believer now. Still, no contract changes until he actually wins something. But I've seen him speak, watched him last season and this, and know what we're seeing in terms of team culture and on the field is him. [Context: So someone took this to mean "I will accept anything Elko does." This comment was that he has clearly proven he has set the right stage. Of course, if he starts displaying bad coaching, I would change my mind. But IMO, he has proven he is a good coach. He can't prevent key injuries. If we end up losing something because of injuries, I am not going to throw a good coach out with the bathwater. That was the point.]
• Klein - I've never had an issue with him, and have always thought he was good. Hope we can stop any Klein bashing now.

And of course, it wouldn't be the Zoo without one gripe... Youngs... can we please stop the "YOU!" thingy during the War Hymn now. Thanks in advance. ;-)

Not sure why anyone would get sensitive over this.

By all objective measure, we haven't been this good since the 90s. We had a flash in the pan in 2012, and 2020 (IMO) doesn't count. Not sure how my OP could be construed as anything other than it was intended, to celebrate with all that I think we finally have arrived, and confirm for those that didn't see the 90s that it seems so.

On the "You" comment, some can't take a joke. (But yea, it does sound dumb IMO).

Nice post. This is as close as we're going to get to Wrecking Crew in today's football! The attitude on defense is great to see! Watching our 3rd and 4th DEs meet at the QB was insane!

Plus the 3rd down stats. We were used to counting on the WC to get us off the field.

A lot if not most "old" Ags think the "you" thing is stupid, but it ain't going anywhere. I was at Andys in CS in late August and some obvious freshmen were practicing the War Hymn and making sure to put the "you" in the right place.

But, we should be glad that they cared enough to do that in the first place.

Time marches on and things change. My 92 your old Class of 55 dad thinks the 12th man towels are stupid. "Why are we waiving white flags of surrender?" Obviously they didn't do that in 55.

I always wonder how these things start? Did some one person just start doing it and it became a thing?

This year takes me back to the 90's as well but better. We'd go into games knowing that our defense would keep us in the game or outright win it for no matter how abysmal our offense was.

Now our defense keeps us in games but our offense can actually outscore someone. I absolutely love watching it.

And yes I know there have been a couple of games that our defense has tripped up in. In the 90's that was called a loss. This year it's a win! This team is magic.

I did get that old feeling again last night....the one time the Ags were going to punt in the second half...and I thought to myself " oh good, more sacks"

90s Ag here too and I agree. This kind of on-field dominance (even with headscratcher plays & quarters throughout) feels like those days again. Hell, the headwinds from the media even feel just like those days too!!!

Throwback to the times when the network would spend more time showing the tears on the opponent's sidelines than the actual game.

OP…great post but I may disagree with you on two points

1…I think this team is better than the 90s … the level of competition week in and week out is drastically more difficult now than then…the national attention / impact is also very much expanded

2…donot give me the bull**** of statement like "no matter what happens the rest of the season…" this is foolish…we must win what/when we can… hope you remember what happened last year after exactly these same bogus statements were made. So please donot

I could understand it if those 80s and 90s teams were winning national titles. But they were dominating powerhouses like rice and Baylor.
