We are in good hands with Elko. A&M wouldn't be #6 if Jimbo was still in charge. This is our year guys. We will win it all. I'm feeling it!

Hot take: Our 4-0 record has very little to do with coaching. It is much more the product of:

*Roster.
*Schedule:
-UTSA and USU cupcakes.
-Pleasant road win against a ND team that probably isn't as good as advertised. Thank you backup QB for gift wrapping the botched PAT.
-Our tougher games are at the back end of the schedule.
-We don't have to play the SEC's best teams: Bama, Georgia, Ole Miss, TN

Call me on Nov 9th after we've played @arky, @LSU, and @Mizzou to tell me how great Elko is.

Jimbo had a better roster
Our schedule always has at least 2 cupcakes to start the season
ND is a very good team maybe not top 10 but still very good

Now we do need to not have a WTF game but there are plenty of signs for optimism.

BS! Do some film study.... I was reviewing tape this morning, our defense is being "coached up" big time. If you watch earlier games vs this last game, those kids are putting their head across the body and wrapping up (or at least trying), they are not running past containment, staying home, staying under control, taking better pursuit angles... Still a long way to go, but it's neat to watch the growth. I posted a while back that this is what I wanted to see. We lost some great athletes, from last year, who didn't understand the basics.

I'm very excited, about this year, because we are seeing the results of a major culture overhaul. However I don't consider this "our year", just the beginning of shutting BAS down!

That doesn't make any sense.

  • Jimbo had the a vastly better talent from recruiting classes. They never materialized due to coaching and bad evaluation.
  • This schedule isn't any easier. Same number of cupcakes.
  • ND take is BS and better than losing to Arky, App State, and Miami.
  • Jimbo generally lost the early big games (Clemson & Bama '18, Clemson '19, Covid cancelled early '20,Arky '21, App State '22, Miami '23)
  • Our "tougher" games are at the end because we're a better team compared to the schedule than under Jimbo.
  • SEC scheduling is never even leveled and wasn't under Jimbo. Didn't stop him from losing to the mid tier and bottom tier teams.

I'm happy we are 4-0. I had ND as a definite loss, and was surprised we kept it close. A fluke win (ND missed PAT) is still a win.

I think my "final" preseason prediction was 6-6. Of course, after ND it had to change to 7-5. Based on our first 4 games my guess for the rest of the season would be:

MSU - close win
Florida - close win (L would not be surprising)
@arky - OT win
@LSU - 10+ point loss
@Mizzou - 7+ point loss
SC - win
Samford - big win
@t.u. - 6+ point loss

9-3 which would be fantastic and far exceeds my expectations.

That said, from what I've seen so far we just don't look like a playoff team. That's why I say we lucked out with the schedule. We get MSU instead of Ole Miss. Florida instead of TN or Georgia.

Watching the night games Saturday - PSU/Oregon, Bama/Georgia - those teams are still on another level compared to us.

You point to ND's missed PAT... But not the TD's A&M had called back, due to stupid penalties. Or us spotting ND, a TD, 4 plays into the game. I sure would like to see those penalties cleaned up...

I can go along with this post. I agree 9-3 would be fantastic, ahead of schedule, I was more like an 8-4 lol.
I also had Arky close, but they're a dumpster fire now. We'll have no resistance from their defense.
If we keep improving and leaving BAS behind, I'm hoping your 3 losses are 50/50...
I still just want to see us finish strong, with you looking forward to next year.

I didn't realize how brutal Arkansas' schedule is.
https://www.secsports.com/schedule/football/university-of-arkansas?view=season On paper they may not win another game. They can move the ball and score points.

I know Petrino cleaned house with the defensive staff. Hopefully that doesn't lead to a big improvement before we play.

obligatory...after 17 games:

Jimbo ---> 11-6
Elko ------> 12-5

Jimbo only had 1 true road win at this point in his tenure (at Carolina)

Elko already has 3 (at ND, Gainesville, and Starkville)

I think we get a close win this weekend. Florida does not look good at all, and I think we should win that game pretty easily. Arkansas is a dumpster fire. LSU is always tough, and with the game being in BR, I'm going to assume a loss. Mizzou may or may not be good. It's really hard to tell with who they have played, but they allowed 31 to Kansas. I think that should be a winnable game. SC and Stamford should both be wins. As for tu, **** those guys. We're gonna take a dump in their Cheerios.

We may not look like a playoff team, but that doesn't mean we can't make the playoffs.

This ought to be a playoff year. You arguably don't have the top 5 teams in SEC on your schedule in Ole Miss, Georgia, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Alabama.

I don't get why everyone keeps listing UT in their "top teams" of the SEC. I am not completely sold on them.
Sure, they destroyed the cupcakes they've played.
They got a lot of credit for playing Georgia tough and really should've won that game. But Georgia may not be all that this year as we are starting to see.
Then, UT struggled against MSU last week and it sounded like MSU blew that game.

So, I'm just not sold on them yet.

Ole Miss has looked the best of anyone so far and they've had some less than stellar moments(UK) too.

Jimbo's offense was clunky. This offense is dynamic and can be even better. On Saturday we utilized our weapons in a way that was rare under Fisher. Just keep it up, keep improving and don't sluff off and go 500 in the back half of the season.
