A&M should have done WHATEVER it took to get him as Head Coach.
NEXT YEAR IS HERE.......again

He certainly would have merited a call and if interested I would have done whatever it took to hire him instead of Jimbo at the time.

However, Dan Campbell, as red-ass of an Aggie as he is and as much as he loves aTm, he is an NFL guy 1000% and would not be interested in being the HC at aTm.

He would have ZERO tolerance and patience for the drama and idiocy of HS recruiting and even less for xfer portal and NIL nonsense.

We did call. He politely declined.

I heard the same.

But my understanding it has more to do with timing. He might be interested in the future.

He's representing plenty well right where he is!

Go Dan Campbell!

No, he clearly does not want to coach college ball, and money whipping someone to do something they really don't want is almost ALWAYS A BAD THING for both parties.

We have a great coach- be thankful!

I'm with you. I'd love to see Campbell win a couple of SB's at Detroit and then come home to A&M someday, but only if that's what he wants to do. And not after age 65 - he's already 49. I doubt it will happen.

I don't see him wanting anything to do with recruiting high school kids.

He's a pro. He's a good pro coach. It's hard enough to win with pros. I don't blame him for sticking to the NFL for the rest of his career.

Even when his tenure eventually ends in Detroit, he'll have plenty of opportunities to choose from in the NFL until he decides to retire.

This sounds great, but in the real world is totally meaningless.

Hiring someone to deal with all the college football drama who doesn't want to deal with the college football drama is a recipe for a let down.

I don't blame the guy. I wouldn't want to deal with the college drama, either.

It's got nothing to do with CFB drama. I would pretty much guarantee his primary reason for staying is his great relationship with the Detroit GM and ownership, and the fact that he completely transformed the team from doormat to Super Bowl contender. Why on earth would you bail on that?

Dan Campbell is a great NFL head coach, who has transformed the Detroit lions from a doormat to an annual playoff contender. He would never come to coach at Texas A&M or any other college because he has an excellent relationship with the Detroit Lions owner Sheila Ford Hamp and General Manager Brad Holmes.
