Marcel is fine. It's the 1st game of the season. 75% completion percentage, 289 yards, 4 Tuddys. If there's an issue, it's the non existent running game, with 3 stud RB's.
He was pretty accurate tonight except for a few deep balls, I thought. He was way more accurate than I remember in the mid-range from last year. Needs to protect himself though from injury, and also dive for the 1st down or goal-line if it's 3rd down or later.fla_agfan said:
He is just too inaccurate.

Reed is a really fun qb at Sam, a pretty average qb at Houston, and a below average qb in the SEC. He'll put up several games of spectacular against overmatched opponents, will have 1-2 surprise games against decent opponents, but will get consumed completely by top end opponents. Reed's accuracy is incredibly inconsistent (he was spraying everywhere last night), his reads are slow, he sees ghosts and escapes out-and-to-the-right over and over, and his vaunted running ability is far, FAR overrated bc he goes down with the brush of a fingernail, and he's not actually fast (very quick, yes!).
He threw at least two last night that Tex, Auburn, ND, LSU, UF pick.

A lot of scrutiny on the deep balls, did y'all see the cross wind they were contending with? Obviously when there is no one within a zip code you should just try to get it somewhere close. But see the way the wind took that throw from mccown 30 yards out of bounds? Any
Throw with loft was going to be a wild card and not a good judge of accuracy

This. I'm far more concerned about the inability to run the ball.

No. They expect 100% accuracy and all passes thrown at least 30 yards in the air perfectly no matter the conditions. They are all Uncle Rico's.

We have much bigger problems. He has been solid today. We are being outrushed 177 to 32 right now.
We do have bigger problems and that is scary… Our D looks like dog balls

I don't think we were overly concerned with trying to establish a ground game first last night.
I think they were trying to continue tuning up Reed with more passing game reps to further his development before the bigger games get here.

We. can win with him if Klein pulls his head out of …. and goes back to his KSU read option offense. We ran the ball 23 times against UTSA, that's unacceptable. From a rushing perspective our QB and top 2 RB combo is as strong as any team in P5.
I'll give Klein benefit of the doubt and maybe he wanted to have in game passing situations against an inferior opponent. Against strong competition this team has to be run dominant while complimenting by getting the ball in space to the three elite YAC WR.

There was a second half drive where Reed got a delay of game, at home….. why not be the leader and call your own play since you know the offense better than anyone on the field. Or call a timeout dude, this was a cupcake game. This kind of hesitant behavior is what will lose those close sec games. I want to see a more assertive and confident Reed!

After watching the games - especially the 1st half - wasn't it obvious they went into this game with the plan to work on the passing game and getting the new receivers into the action. You could tell there was just not an emphasis on getting the running game going. Sure they had to run it some, but that was obviously not the focus last night.

They returned 0 starters on defense. We probably will never see that again..

Both Elko and Reed said that they came out with a defense they had no film on and didnt expect. That they had a lot of guys in the box.
It's clear to me Traylor didn't want us to get our ground game going. I don't think we intended to work on the pass game. It's what the defense gave us. And it took a little bit to adjust and get timing down. Once we did, we were fine.
Now do I ever again want to hear that a defense came out with something we didn't expect? No. That better be the only time. To me, that's a Klein issue.

Exactly. They were sloppy and made a ton of mistakes. Arch had guys routinely open and couldn't even come close. You can maybe say he was too hyped in a loud environment. But I saw what was common knowledge.. that he's not a high level QB able to read defenses AND deliver the ball well enough to win big games. As of now, he's still proven literally nothing.

For those that are bagging on Reed, what game were you watching ? He played well. Not perfect but plenty to like. Defensive front 7 is my biggest concern. Too many blown assignments . That has to be cleaned up. Not really worried about the run game . They schemed to stop the run and force Reed to beat them with his arm and that's exactly what he did.
