Jimbo had just beat Bama, was forming the #1 recruiting class, Orgeron was on his way out and Woodward was the LSU AD trying to lure Jimbo to LSU, or at least that what Jimbo wanted people to think. It's debatable if it was an overrated recruiting class, or/and an ineffective coaching staff, but no one thought within two years of that extension being signed he would be fired. Remember, it took a 10 year fully guaranteed 75 million dollar contract to lure him from Florida State to A&M; everyone was on board with the hire and the extension. No one here wanted to see Jimbo at LSU. Now, I'm just wondering how long it will take for everyone to turn on Elko, because the schedule for 26/27 are going to be that much harder. And the real salt in the wound is t.u. success over the past two seasons.

No, the extension was given 3 days before the first game of the 2021 season. The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents voted today to extend the contract for Aggie football coach Jimbo Fisher an additional four years through the 2031 season.

The initial contract for Jimbo Fisher should not have been 10 years long and $75 million. A 6-year contract for $45 million would have been much more reasonable. Even worse, a 4-year contract extension was given on 9/1/2021, just 3 days before the first game of that season, turning it into a 14-year and 95-million contract. Without that extension, the buyout cost would have been $30 million for the remaining 4 years (2024-2027) instead of $76 million for the remaining 8 years (2024-2031). Finishing 9-1 (8-1 SEC) and 4th in the final 2020 rankings did not warrant a 4-year extension to a 10-year contract.

Jimbo is a fairly regular guest on Sirius ch 84 College Sports radio with a couple of his former players. He is informative, in some ways, but mostly talks about his past experiences with LSU and Fla State.
