I thought kelvin went full Buzz in the last 9-10 minutes of that game. It was something like 21-9 run Fla, up until the last minute of the game when the coogs totally destructed.

But wait....I thought only our coach did this type of thing. There is no way you would say the same thing about a coach playing in the national title game. That is crazy.

Poor us…we don't want to pony up like Florida did but we want the same results. Try less self-pity and less self-loathing.

Meh....I was at the swamp this year when they were Booing their head coach as he ran off the field for halftime. I wasn't too impressed with the Gators, the stadium or their fans.

Well that's definitely more important than winning championships.

Florida turned up the defensive pressure and clamped down on UH the last ten minutes…UH looked in trouble even when they were leading down the stretch

I didn't say winning championships wasn't important. Just commenting on them being the "Gold Standard". They're not.

Truth.

I give nothing but high praises for all of those athletes/teams and their accomplishments. I believe I even grabbed a shirt from one of those titles.

But none of those are major sports. Again, while I applaud the ladies for their tennis title this year, see how far you get in a discussion with an Ohio State grad regarding national titles.

This. Credit Florida for locking in. UH rushed so many shots in the second half, and dribbled off their own feet the last 3 possessions. The loss wasn't on Kelvin.

We gave way too many fans that think this way, which is why we don't win

Overall as a fanbase we care too much about other stuff besides winning.

Which is fine if you want to be that way, but then don't cry when that are consistently mediocre.

I would argue that our results have been mediocre - the effort to change that has not. We stole Franchione from Alabama and most thought that was a coup before we found out he didn't know what he was doing. We hired Sumlin who was one of the hottest coaching prospects at the time before he…lost his way. We brought in Jimbo and bought the highest rated class in history. Any of those situations could have/should have worked, but for whatever reason we haven't decoded success yet. This narrative that we settle for mediocrity needs to start fading away, and maybe it will when we aren't hamstrung by a stupid contract.

Fran and Sherman and Sumlin and Jimbo and Elko hires were only as good as the support the administration offered them. I'll suggest we aren't good at helping our coaches succeed.

Trev is a wild card but he can't be here just manage budget. He's a competitor and he needs support from the TMF to be the best AD in the country bar none.

No excuses. Only outcomes, not inputs, count.
MaroonRevival

Sincere inquiry - what does our administration NOT do when it comes to football that other administrations do that makes them successful?
Basketball and baseball I get. Football seems to have everything it could possibly need but maybe there are intangibles? Unmentionables?

This is the problem. Too many Ags with the mentality of being the best character and never beating us at halftime or time just ran out so you didn't beat us.

In men's sports that drive 95% of interest across the country for college athletics, football, basketball and baseball, we have zero titles since 1939. Zero.

Every other MF''ing team in the SEC has a title in one of those sports since 1954, which is a long ass time ago and recognizes when Missouri won a baseball title. Fast forward to 2000, which is when OU won their last football title, and every other team in the whole league has at least one title in one of the Big 3 Men's sports. Don't care about the Bill Byrne Get My Contract Extension by wining titles in non-rev sports. This is what is absolutely unbelievable that it gets accepted here and the money just pours in just because. It's insanity.

You are right. We did do those things but then it's even clearer that something else is holding us back.

Why can schools like Oklahoma, Alabama, Tennessee, tu, LSu, Florida, etc…make similar hires/moves and get much more success out of it?

What is different about those schools than ours?

I'd argue that the hiring of Fran, jimbo s d sumlin were easy hires that did t have to be vetted. There was no real search done when those hires were made. They were the easy, obvious choices for us.

I like the Elko hire (wasn't our first choice so maybe that's a good thing) and I feel like the buddy hire is one where our ad actually did his homework and picked someone who was the best fit for the job rather than the obvious choice hot name or the disgruntled big name who was the ad's friend . Only time will tell if those two hires work out

If Florida has sucked, what have we? I know we'd be ecstatic to have any big 3 championships in the past 8 decades

Florida's football team is 106-71 (64-50) since Urban left.

Florida has a truly elite baseball program under O'Sullivan, making the CWS 9 out of the 16 seasons he's been there (excludes the canceled COVID season).

Under Billy Donovan, Florida basketball won two championships and made three additional Elite Eights, a Final Four and a championship appearance/loss. After Donovan left, they made the Elite Eight once in Mike White's tenure from 2015-2022. Since bringing in Todd Golden, they have gone from 16-17 to 24-12 to 36-4 and national champs in an era where SEC basketball is more competitive than it's been in a long time.

Florida's big three sports are nothing more than a perfect example of what everybody already knows... if you don't find the right coach then you won't compete at an elite level. Keep hiring/firing until you get it right.
