I refuse to believe that, if we won the national championship in football, my life wouldn't change.

Why not a single major sport is nationally relevant and why does every team fade away toward end of the season (2024 baseball the long exception), at such a big school with all the resources and super fan support? Puzzling

As far as afterlives go there are worse places to end up than purgatory. It's probably the best of the "didn't do what I told 'ya" destinations.

So I guess the quote's effect is akin to saying "I could care less" in uncertain import.

Purgatory is only mentioned in apocryphal literature. So seems fictional…

The Aggies' athletic underperformance is indeed inexplicable, but I no longer care. I don't expect it to change in my lifetime.

I wish the Ags were as big a no name as Arizona and had 4 CWS champion banners to hang.

As I get older, and hopefully wiser, I'm realizing I have better things to do with my limited years left that to worry about what some 19 year old does on a field. Still a fan, but I'll find out the scores when I get off the golf course. Win or lose, I'll be back on the golf course the next day.

The sad fact is that if any of the big three programs ever experienced real success (a championship), all those posters with the "it's just kids sports" coping mechanisms would be absolutely euphoric. Look at fans of programs who have won big- they are still toasting to it decades later.

Unfortunately, there is something rotten in the state of Aggiedom. I'm not sure what it is- hokey culture, bad luck, idiotic leadership, or Kyle Field being on an Indian burial ground- but it is real.
This show has been on failure reruns for eight decades and counting.

I highly recommend lowering expectations but we all know it's gonna be "this is OUR year!!" come August.

We are all posting in the offseason .... it means something to us ... or we all wouldn't be here.

Check a score or following a team is one thing, but its a matter of perspective.

It's an Aggie Tradition to go from #1 to #14 in a week.

There is no purgatory and just because you haven't heard of school also doesn't make them a no name.

Age and perspective are definitely part of it for me. I decided years ago that it was stupid to let a game that is completely beyond my control affect my mood for an entire weekend.

I'd also add in that having every game on TV or on demand, and being able to watch highlights etc whenever we want has taken away some from that Gameday urgency. Obviously not for students or season ticket holders, but for those of us who are a bit more casual, we've probably got even more casual.
