Can the next guy coach the line to set an edge and stop crashing down on the back side? Zero gap integrity all year long. All the running back had to do was start play side then cut back. 10+ yards almost every time. It was frustrating to watch.

The defense was a trainwreck. Bateman coached tackling and cover skills out of the players. And, overall the D had more talent than the O.
It is inexcusable that the dline didn't have more sacks. There was a lot of talent to make it happen.
Pair that with LBs and a secondary often out of position and making an insane number of embarrassing whiffs on tackles and it's obvious that Bateman had to be forced out.

When the defense was the problem... it was a PROBLEM. Couldn't tackle against USCe, and gave up big plays against USCw. Then the defense made Auburn look all world
The offense was pedestrian once the opposing defense found the formula on how to shut down Reed/Klein. When it was Weigman/Reed/Klein, it was harder to game plan for
I fear if nothing changes on offense in 2025 and the opposing defenses will shut us down now that it's a single QB system. We seem to be very predictable on offense and that's on Klein/Elko

Positive is Elko will be the play caller on defense next year and we are getting help for our secondary. Plus apparently Bateman is a very good recruiter.

We never had a stable full of Secretariats. Our NFL Draft counts prove that.
We've never even had a stable full of thoroughbreds, period, but we've had a few good race horses sprinkled here and there on occasion. Never a stable full.
Best we had with Jimbo was a couple years of some Seabiscuits, maybe.

Our defense scored a TD on a pass play but couldn't stop the run to save their lives! Offense wasn't great but we can at least attribute some of that to talent level and tu having a solid defense themselves. I was at the game and it was excruciating to watch them run it on us over and over and over. Ewers handling the ball was our only shot to get back in the game.Ol Rock said:

****ing terrible take. There are plenty of reasons to complain about our defense, but the Texas game is not one of them. They averaged over 28 PPG against P4 teams and we held them to 17 which not only is NOT getting dominated, it puts us with Georgia and Ohio State as the only teams to hold Texas to less than 20 points.
If anything, the Texas game was a bright spot for the defense.

Just looking at PPG against P4 competition, the defense had their second best performance of the season against Texas. Only Missouri managed to score fewer points. Hell, the defense let Bowling Green score more points than Texas. So yeah, definitely a bright spot.

So, why not just fire him? According to you we're now paying him his DC salary to only recruit…seems like a huge waste of money…How is that a positive?
