Talked to a Texas insider who said the reason he didn't play much at tu was because he couldn't pick up the blocking side. Sark won't play TE's who don't block. Still has shown that he is a good receiver so as long as we have blocking TE's I think we are net positive especially when we aren't sure about Hudson's return.

I would rather add Juniors who have seen some action for depth than have no bench at all... you've menstruated a lot on this post but haven't made a point. Why are you so concerned about depth players we are adding? If you like stars, there is a 4 star TE already on the bench.

I never said we shouldn't take him. If he's going to be the difference between winning and losing to App St, then I guess he's a take. In that context, I said if our coaches think he makes our team better, then we're screwed because it shows how bad we really are. I mean, presumably we'd like to beat Texas, and we just decided that their 2nd/3rd string, junior tight end who caught 5 passes for 33 yards and 0 TDs is going to help us. I also wondered WTF we're doing and suggested a different approach to the portal because what we're doing obviously isn't working. I'd like to win a title. Taking this guy suggests we're no where close to doing that.

He gives us 5 TE on the roster. Maybe you're overthinking it and the coaches want him to come in and be depth behind Theo and Armstrong (assuming he's ready). Or maybe they expect him to come in and start. Truth is you and I don't know. Everyone has somehow come to expect every transfer is an all conference player looking to leave.

The truth is, most transfers are for depth.

This was an espionage pickup. Obviously it would be great if he workouts out at TE. But I guarantee his first few weeks will be sitting down spilling the beans on everything he knows on the Texas offense.

I'd love to hear what your reaction was to signing Jace Sternberger. Got no run at Kansas and came from juco. This guy comes with a lot of meaningful snaps at Bama and was rated #1 te in the portal last year.

Needs are different than wants. We absolutely had to land multiple WR, TE, DE, and DT.

Coached valued an experienced QB to come in as a backup and we added an experienced CB with SEC starts.

It would be nice to upgrade other positions but resources are limited (for everyone) and we addressed 3 of our 4 biggest needs.


Not to mention most of what I share is coming from what I hear our coaches are after. Not necessarily what i want.

I don't get all the negativity on these transfer threads. I think our coaches did a very good job this year of getting quality transfers at positions of need. Yeah, it would be nice to have a couple of DT transfers to help us, but I think our three fish recruits are going to provide the help we need next year at that position. Our recruiting class was exceptional on both the OL and DL lines.

We absolutely must land at least 1 solid DT. Right now we have 3 DT that have at least 1 year of college under their belt. We need 5 or 6 for rotation and having 1 freshman won't hurt but 2 or 3 likely would.

Other than that I feel like they addressed our most pressing needs well.

Vander always brings out all of the doomers. It's hilarious the amount of crybabies that spend all of their time here to sulk. The zoo is such a good shoulder to cry on.

Maybe he will be that one in a million player that breaks out and surpasses expectations, but he will most likely be a decent rotation guy and nothing else. Not excited but not going to wet the bed either.

Yep. He showed some promise in 2023 at Bama but did nothing at tu. In the end we had 2 TE going into next year with 1 being a true freshman. We needed more numbers and better blocking.

Well, if we "needed" a TE then we should have gotten one that's better than a junior with 5 catches for 33 yards, 0 TDs, a penalty machine, and someone who Texas is laughing at us for taking….that is if we're serious about breaking our 100 year streak of not winning anything. Now, if we just "needed" a warm body, then ok.

we added 3 tight ends, last season they combined for 12 catches and 1 TD… and the pumpers will say some are only here to block but I guess Elko hasn't realized that some TE's can catch and block (mind blown)… I'm sure opposing DC's won't realize which te's come in for run plays and which ones come in for pass plays LOL

To be fair they really only used 1.
