And tu only used 1 TE. They didn't share the load at all.
Didn't the year before either. Transfer from Georgia got all the reps. Sark doesn't go deep at the TE or receiving core. He mainly just uses his top guys. The other TE was mainly used for blocking. Now watch, he'll have 40 catches in 2025.

The Texas #1 TE in 2023 was Ja'Tavion Sanders and Gunner Helm was his backup. This year Helm was the starter and Juan Davis was the #2 TE. Both are SR's and will be gone next year, but Niblack had already been passed up by Jordan Washington and was fighting to be TE #2.

Washingon played in 5 games early in the season and then never saw the field again. It's possible he pass Niblack but usually that means he eould be playing more later in the year and not earlier.

And a breif google search only mentions Washington being injuried in the spring game so I'm not sure him not playing eould be injury related.

No it's well known Washington is the considered next up at TE and I'm sure that was communicated hence the transfer. Niblack is talented as well but so is Washington and he has the overall skillset, plus Spencer Shannon. They will give them the off-season to prove it or hit the portal for a proven commodity. Niblack is expecting more certainty at playing time with a shorter window of eligibility left.

Vander always brings out all of the doomers. It's hilarious the amount of crybabies that spend all of their time here to sulk. The zoo is such a good shoulder to cry on.

I'm their bat signal. What's funny is a couple of them don't even read what I write they just try to spew their negativity.
any opinion different from mine is spewing negativity and said posters are crybabies do I have that right? Never change Zoo

if he was really good Texas and Bama would have not let him walk be serious.

This has nothing to do with a difference of opinions it's about a small group that are always negative.

Also very few have called Niblack great. I think he has potential to be a decent receiving TE but I'm not sure how well he'll do.

It appears we are in the addition of "projects" (UH WR) and "bodies" (tu TE) stage in the portal process.

We're just in the stage of "improve the roster", period….whether it be the starters or the quality depth.

The fact we're picking these kinds of guys up should tell you a lot about how much "improving" our roster really needs.

The reason why we're Texas 8&4 is because that's right about the caliber of our roster.

The true contenders put in 10-ish draft picks into the NFL pretty much every year, with consistency.
Meanwhile we put in about 3-ish consistently.

I disagree with you. Our talent level has been better than 8-4. We just can't seem to get a full coaching staff that develops that talent and gets them to play consistently at a high level. We have more talent than USCe, Auburn (for now), and Missouri (beat them but they are ranked in the 25).

I'm not saying we should be undefeated every year, but a 10-win season should be in the cards every once in a while. We aren't less talented than Ole Miss.

I don't begrudge the players the money they're making from their NIL, but the transfers are out of control. How TF are we supposed to get emotionally invested in a team made up of players 1) from arch rivals or 2) that are probably going to leave in 3 months?

Need to structure these NIL deals as multi year contracts. This is bonkers.

We hardly had the talent to make it to 8&4. Did you see our WR room? Or our RB room to finish the season? Or our secondary? The list goes on. And let's not forget the amount of transferred we had to bring in just to be competitive, and from G5 schools..

All correct.

Recruiting and "star count" only goes so far.
About all it tells you is that you've got some players with potential, but they may not be good fits, may not have that inner drive, may not adapt to elevated competition level (big fish, small pond syndrome), and may just have too much off-field drama.

But the one stat that's definitive, relative to roster talent, is the NFL Draft.
Only downside is it happens AFTER the season is over.

We've been mostly hovering in that 3-ish range for quite a while.
The teams we wanna run with are in the 10-ish range.
That's a huge difference, and absolutely plays a big factor.

Jury's still out on whether Elko is gonna improve on that. Plus it's not an overnight flip of a switch either.

Should we get to that same point, putting in 10-ish draft picks consistently for several years, THEN we'll know we've got legitimately talented rosters.
That's also when we'll match up against a team like UGA or OhSt, and Vegas oddsmakers will have it as a pick'em game.

Until then, we'll be the underdogs in those matchups, hoping to pull the upset against every one of them.
That's not championship caliber team though.
That's just every Cinderella story's pipe dream.

Niblack comes with red flags just like Hudson. He does have a upside but I don't expect much production. Kc was in the portal because he deserved a big pay day. Other guys are leaving for other reasons. Niblack has all the tools to be great and it doesn't matter who was in front of him if he can't get touches in Sarks offense with his athletic ability problem somewhere.
vander54

Sark has shown he only uses 1 TE in his offense. In the past 4 years 2021 was the most distribution with their TE1 accounting for 69% of TE catches and 73% of their yards. 2023 on TE never dropped below 76%

Last year for example our TE1 caught 62% of the TE catches and 54% of their yards.

Disclamer 1 season does not allow you to identify trends it's just a comparison.

Oh yeah and the Hudson red flags that were all over social media appear to have been made up.

i'm hoping that his only issue getting touches in Sark's system was a guy named Helm right in front of him.

maybe Niblack was slated to be next in line, but finally got tired of all the dildos being waved in his face?
i mean, when it comes to mental health, those NIL dollars can only cover up so much....

Is it possible his role here is at receiver. He's not going to be on the line with his hand in the dirt. He will be at wideout creating matchup problems.

You think a WR who runs a 4.7 is going to be a matchup problems for SEC defensive backs?
