Keep trolling. Careful though you only have three more posts today.
You about to come out of the closet?

Only took you five edits to come up with that one?

Odd thing to complain about when you're spending around $1,500 on a game and night in CS for 4. Just to see us win 8 games

I arrived on campus and was attending games for several years before that. They haven't done real pushups once.
Unfortunately yes I did. What makes it worse is that the advisor with them was my fish buddy who I had known since Jr High School, the late Rusty Thompson. Great guy, great Aggie, but what a mistake that was.

Regarding the football thugs and Sully, that was the straw that broke the camels back for me. I love being an Aggie. I identify as an Aggie, but after that incident it was clear to me that the values I was taught as a cadet in the early 80's are no long taught at TAMU.
I will never donate to the university again. That season was the first time I didn't pull for the Aggies. I give to the Rudder Association only.
The university is a shell of what it once was. You youngsters don't know what it was like back in the 80's.
You bought your date a mum for every home game as every home game is a homecoming. Girls dressed up for games. The band played loud throughout the game. It is different in a very negative way now. TAMU is now the University of Texas in College Station. That makes this old Ag very sad.
Hey Boomer, Class of '84 here, old E-1 Jock. I'm with you 100%. So many embarrassing changes, and while there are many accountable, Sharp having expanded enrollment is the worst to me.
I'm no Sharp fan. But, if you're unhappy with the expanded enrollment, don't blame Sharp. Blame the Texas Legislators who forced the top 10% rule on A&M, while allowing tu to only be required to accept top 6% (recently changed to top 5%). Call your state representative and share your disapproval.
Well, I think Sharp misunderstood the 10% rule. It DIDN'T mean that A&M had to accept 10% of the population of Texas… that rule wasn't what caused the problem. Sharp STATED that he wanted 75,000-80,000 students. That wasn't forced, it was the ego of a disappointed career politician who never got to be governor, so he tried to govern as much of the population as possible, and ruined our institution in the process.

Shows how times change. Dates ALWAYS got a mum and if a young lady had a date with a uniform she wore a dress and really dressed up. No longer.

I'm just glad we didn't have smart phones back then to "immortalize" some of the stuff we did back then. Today we would not only be expelled but probably face criminal charges for things like quadding, steam showers, and don't even mention axe handles!

@theratt87, are you talking about one of the decades where we played 1 or 0 competitive home games per year in the SWC?

Yell leaders need to change with the times.

Frankly, they are embarrassing with memes of them shown all over the internet doing their whistleees and other flamboyant bs.

You know it's bad when you really prefer your family of non Aggies to not notice them.

@Boomer#85 you're talking about 40 years ago. We're both old enough to have grandkids now; yes, things change. The population of the state of Texas has doubled since 1985, so has A&M's enrollment. We have to compete for recruits nationally like never before, and every game in the SEC is competitive. I'm not finding data on football revenue in 1985, but we can estimate that it was MUCH less than today. Bottom line, college football is a significant business now and decisions will continue to be made to maximize revenue. If a DJ drives more revenue and better recruiting / more wins, than dudes in overalls, then that's what's going to happen. I don't know any business today that is the same as 40 years ago.

As for practicing with the football team, back in 1939 an offensive lineman's Average height: 6 feet, 0 inches, Average weight: 215 pounds. I don't think any untrained A&M student belongs in practice with OL today Average height: 6 feet, 5 inches, Average weight: 315 pounds.

I'm class of 85 and a former CT. In my day yell leaders did not look like pretty boys walking the streets of Montrose. Yell leaders actually did push ups on the 50 yard line during the beginning of yell practice. The majority of them were contract fighters. Those odd little pushups they do now took really ******ed.

During the "joke" portion of yell practice, the raising of the leg was supposed to be a reenactment of the days when yell practices were held on the steps of the YMCA building and it represented walking up the steps.

ALSO, I remember in the olden days yelling throughout the entire game. We did yells all game long and we were hoarse leaving the game.

I realize this is the millionth thread on this, but it's honestly just painfully sad how lame the yell leaders have become and make no mistake, I am all for yell leaders.

Also in my day, the head yell leader would practice with the football team the week before school started, pads and all. The yell leaders were pretty tough in my day, compared to the soy boys that are currently doing the job.

Finally I really wish the current student body would do yells properly, again discussed on this site millions of times.

Just curious, wtf is the deal during the War Hymn when they shout "YOU!" after singing "the eyes of texas are upon you?"

One last complaint I have, for f#ck sake, it's t.u. not TU!

They were always lame

Just be happy New Army wants cheerleaders and Mo Bamba. Sips students want Marxism, gender affirming care, and universal basic income.

What's happening today is the inevitable result of a decades long organized effort to limit participation in A&M's traditions to a tiny minority of the student body. If you keep telling people they are not acceptable as representatives of tradition, it's only a matter of time until they stop caring about the traditions, and that appears to be what has happened. Apparently, many students don't see yell leaders as anything more than an embarrassing side show, and sadly, the Yell Leaders seem to have accepted that characterization as their fate. "Five for Yell" seems to have brought on a different type of candidate: not the gung ho jock who bowls you over with his enthusiasm and aggressiveness, but the glad handing politician who thinks this will look good on his resume. A lot of things have changed as A&M transitions from being a respected institution of high learning to little more than an oversized diploma mill, but many of the most galling changes are the result not being willing to change just a little bit along the way.

Generally speaking, I don't mind the yell leaders.
But somebody's gotta get control of it, including the stupid **** they say nowadays, and the stupid **** they're doing as of late.

It's ok to be unique. Encouraged, even.
But it's another thing to act and speak like a pack of idiots.

I think a lot of the problem with the yells is the DJ. So much time between plays is filled with music now. The default is music, not yells.
I don't necessarily view this is a bad thing though; it's just the sport/student body changing over the years.
I graduated a few years ago, and my voice would be shot after most games haha.

The new army yell leaders could star in a Peter Pan movie. That is all. Over and out from old Army.

@HJack20, when you're driving in your car or getting ready to play your favorite sport, do you choose to listen to a few favorite songs and maybe dance and sing, or do you slowly count down, bend over, and chant? I'm just curious what's more fun to you.
