Playing a good team close isn't much of an indicator, especially not for future years.

Northern Illinois beat Notre Dame. Louisville played them close. Michigan beat Ohio State. Nebraska played them close.

Disagree on the Notre Dame game though. We got their best effort. They were ready to play. And for the most part, A&M was ready to play. Coaches just were not ready for Weigman being a head case and making bad interceptions.

Nothing like Ohio State-Michigan which is clearly a mental block at this time for Day and Ohio State.

Not some huge separation? Most of the teams that made the playoffs frequently do well. The last time we even competed for a conference title was 26 seasons ago.

Not really. ASU beat Texas. If there was a giant separation they would not need help from the refs to win.

Since 2012 (13 years) we've played the eventual "Natty" Champs 6 times and won once.

If ND wins it this year, make it 7 times and 1 win.

NIU is probably having a watch party.

If ND wins NIU will declare themselves National Champs.

The Aggies are the most frustrating teams to follow for sure. Just like we played ND tough in the opener and now they are in the championship game, we also were beating a bad USC team 24-7 in our bowl game like we should have been and then immediately went to looking completely hapless and pissed away the lead in no time and went on to lose the game.

I don't know how the same team can go from looking so good to so bad in the same season, game, half, quarter, drive, series, or play as they do sometimes.

notre dame is what we should aspire to be like. they are talented but the sum of the parts out weighs the individual talent. we recruit well enough to compete but currently we have better individual talent than team success. this is culture and coaching and clearly marcus freeman has done a heck of a job.

ohio st is more talented we can have outlier years where we recruit at the same level but for the most part we will be slightly less talented. while the ohio st model is appealing i don't see that being our best path towards success. we just won't recruit top 3 every single year like they do.

I firmly believe that the sole reason A&M is not in the national championship conversation, and the reason that Weigman's Aggie career ended the way that it did, is solely and exclusively because people continue to call him "Wiggy".
