It seems like there's a lot of "Kiffin always has his teams playing well", "Kiffin would dominate here", and "A&M should hire Kiffen" talk. I'm not sure he's fielded teams that are up to the standard that A&M demands. Let's take a look at Kiffin's five seasons at Ole Miss.
2020: Covid year, but they went 4-5 against an all SEC schedule. Considering how our fanbase reacted after this year's 8-4 season, we'd be very disappointed.
2021: 10-2 season, losses to Alabama and Auburn, missing Atlanta. Final CFP ranking was 8, and they lost to Baylor in the Sugar Bowl. They would have been the 8 seed, hosting Oklahoma State in round one.
2022: 8-4 season, losses to LSU, Alabama, Arkansas, and Mississippi State. Unranked in the final CFP ranking, and they lost to Texas Tech in the Texas Bowl.
2023: 10-2 season, losses to Alabama and Georgia. Final CFP ranking was 11, and they beat Penn State in the Peach Bowl. They would have been the 11 seed, playing Georgia on the road.
2024: 9-3 season, losses to Kentucky, LSU, and Florida. Final CFP ranking was 14, and they beat Duke in the Gator Bowl.
Has Kiffin done better than A&M? Yes, but it hasn't been great. He has fielded teams that lose most big games, occasionally win a big one, and occasionally lose head-scratching games to teams they shouldn't lose to.
2024 Ole Miss wasn't really any better than A&M. Instead of ND, they played Wake Forest, accounting for the extra win.
2021 and 2023 were good seasons for Lane, but he's failed to play in Atlanta or make the playoffs thus far, just as A&M has.
