Smart kid.

If I'm a star player on the team that wins the championship this year and I'm not eligible for the NFL, I'm hitting the portal for max payday. I don't care which school offers the most, that's where I land.

It's a dangerous game and most will pay (health) later on with age. I dont blame any of them
Being a fireman is a dangerous job too. But whenever there is a fire, they always show up.

If you think the game is too dangerous then you don't have to play.

I believe they don't think it's too dangerous because they are playing. But they're also making decisions based on what's best for them because at the end of the day, they have too.

Is coach going to pay their bills when their careers are over?

None of yall care when these guys transfer in and applaud it. God forbid someome leaves for a better opportunity

Don't hate the player, hate the game.

(I'm saying the system currently in place is at fault, not the players who maximize it to their benefit - or try to, at least)

We were talking about missing the old days of football.

My point was these guys get paid now but then still opt out of games.

If a fireman goes off to get his $ as you say, I bet he still shows up to put out fires.

(Edit: reading back posts above I admit my point above may not have been clear)

And firemen leave for other departments in other cities that pay better. As do police officers. The difference in pay can be in the 10s of thousands per year which is less in what these guys are facing as a college football player.

If someone offers me 500k and someone else offers me a million... thats a no brainer.

Wow!

Never forget this is entirely the fault of the NCAA

It is. Many just wanted to get paid for signing autographs back in the day but couldn't. Do yall remember Johnny getting punished for doing so?

Blame the NCAA and those stupid rules!

These aren't men.

If they're 18+, they can serve and die in combat for our US military. Id say they're all men
Attaining some age, regardless of what attaining that age could possibly entail, doesn't make someone a man. If they serve, honorably, then they are men.

No different than calling those who wear a uniform a "hero" whether they be in the military, law enforcement, firefighters, etc. The mere wearing of a uniform does not make them a hero, that comes only from what they do when they wear it.

The dumb part of everyone arguing on here.

Him doing it like this is a bad look. No other way to slice it.

He was getting a lot of money no matter where he was going.

They actually should require players to stay a year if they sign.

This is why NFL coaches are going to be more likely to transition to college ball better now.

They are used to managing mercenaries.

I didn't make my original point clear. I tried to edit a post earlier to make my point.

I'm saying if these guys are going to make all this NIL money then take up insurance and play all the games. Tired of seeing all the opt outs. I think now that they are making $ then play out your contract. I hate those that sit out or don't play (see E Stewart who I think might have opted out of the playoffs). And soon it won't just be bowl games that you see many sitting out. Eventually guys will sit out earlier.

It'll change.

Even the Pros have requirements tied to their contracts. You don't see them opting out of games when their team is mathematically out of the playoffs. They play the rest of the season.

And they have actual contracts, for X period of time. They can't just up and be free agents every season. That would create chaos.

Oh, wait...

A LBer for the 49ers did a couple of weeks ago. He took a bunch of heat for it and should have. I would love to know his reasoning tho

NCAAF is in its infancy with NIL. 20 years from now it's going to look very different. I expect a bunch of changes.

Just imagine if these players would have been allowed to make money by signing autographs at a local buisness? $20 per autograph, and $100 for autographing memorabilia. Something along those lines would have potentially stopped all this. Or just allowing them to make money when their jersey sold

Evan just quits. He's not doing it bc he's worried about his body.

Those kind of guys. Quitters never change. We will see if there's a team dumb enough to sign him.

There probably will be. Where he's going to lose out big is at the next level. The NFL does their homework and will pass on a guy that's precieved as a character issue type unless he's already proven himself and is an absolute game changer (Terrell Owens) type

Yeah it sucks but this is the name of the game now so… let's go get him.
I think there is a huge risk in paying big bucks for a fish QB. He might not see the field in year 1. Too much chance that he is gone in year 2.

Maybe better to get a soph or junior who may see some playing time then might stay.

NIL has made things so wierd.

Right and at anytime you're not performing or get recruited over they can say kick rocks or take away your playing time. Works both ways.

ND doesn't have to share their 14M, so can pay him 4-6M and still make more than other teams that share with conference.

If I signed a contract to work at IBM and Amazon gave me a bigger paycheck/better job, then I would leave too.

This happens all the time in most industries. I am not quite sure why this has become some moral issue. Just plain weird.

People need to do what is best for them because your boss really doesn't care about you when its time to lay you off.
Happened to me all the time. Make someone an offer, they accept it. Then they get the offer from another firm that they really wanted and then they back out of their commitment to me.

I was always frustrated that it put us back to square one on the search, but most of the time I felt glad that we didn't end up with a person who really didn't want to work with us.

Wasn't there a RB commit that did this a couple years ago at Georgia as well?
