I have always heard the argument that we have everything in place to be a national contender, but unfortunately we aren't. Is it just the coaching staff that is the issue or is there other problems that are not talked about. It seems we have some of the best facilities, fans, atmosphere, recruiting base, money, etc. However, we can't seem to put together any consistency or contend for a championship. Are there truly that few number of coaches that can truly unlock all the potential at a school?

There is no college football coach with the last name "Kiffen."

If you're referring to Lane Kiffin, he is a good coach but always loses a couple of games he shouldn't. He does not have a history of putting it all together. Maybe he would here, but they've given him as many NIL resources there as he would have here and he hasn't done it.

Lane Kiffin not having resources is such a weird narrative. Other then Ohio State and Oregon who benefitted more from the transfer portal than Ole Miss? They had a top 5 roster and lost at home to Kentucky. Kentucky's only SEC win! He's always had resources and never won anything other than C-USA but since he complains the most everybody believes that he's the victim. He had elite resources and the big reward was a bowl win over a Duke team with no quarterback

What would the late - Mike Leach have done at A&M with our support and resources?

I'm not one for "needs to be a good fit", but I do worry that at A&M his antics would be a real problem. Right now he's at a school that folks are generally ambivalent about. He posts on twitter and screams for attention and everyone laughs and moves on. At A&M, I think he'd spend too much time trying to interact with folks that already love to pick at A&M cause our fans are thin skinned.

You guys get upset about Jimbo's defensive rants, or about Elko talking about this being a "real program" would absolutely lose your minds with some of the stupid wars he would get pulled into.

Also, the guys has a career 105-52 record at Tennessee, USC, FAU & Ole Miss. That is 66% and 2 of those programs are top tier (so it's not like he was at Vandy rocking 6-6 records)

At UT he was 53%
At USC he was 65% (not counting his 3-2 where he was fired)
At FAU he was 66%
At Ole Miss he is 71%.

So at Ole Miss, he's rocking what is essentially exactly between 8-4/9-3.

I honestly think it is just a way for people to try and ignore the types of losses he throws out every season.
I think the guy is a great coach, but his record does not match his acclaim on this board.

I think it's just human nature - people on here dismiss any wins we have and throw fits about our losses. At the same time, they remember the highs for the other teams/coaches and forget about the lows. I guarantee you more people on here think of Kiffin's game against UGA than his loss to LSU, Kentucky or Florida. Meanwhile, folks on here talk way more about USC, Auburn & tu than they do about Mizzou or LSU.

Kiffin had the #1 Transfer Portal Class in 2024 and Ole Miss still went 5-3 in the SEC (same as us) and didn't make the CFP. You still have to deal with Kiffin being a dewshbag for $9M+ per year. My reason for asking is though my handle says 85, I'm Class of '03. I had a conversation with a family member before the Elko hire about Kiffin.

Was he really discounted or not considered bc he said mean things about us or other people? But we are ok with Jackie despite what the Paternos of the world thought of him at the time?

We've had 1 10-win season since 1998 (26 seasons) Kiffin now has 3 in his last five seasons.
