Why not bring Santucci as the DC in yr 1? What changed? GT def was middle of the pack in a weak ACC.

This is one of the most realistic "hire an Aggie as coach" scenarios. Unless he really wants to stay in the NFL, the chance to come home and put his mark on a defense/program and get more shine on his reputation (if he ever wants to NFL again) might be good draw for him.
And hey, he's been an interim HC a couple times. Just in case.

As for York, he's a hard worker, a good football player and probably the most aware defensive player we have. And he makes plays…82 tackles on the year, easily the team leading tackler. Using pass coverage skills to dog the guy is ridiculous. Or maybe we should put Ricks at LB so we can have better pass coverage from the position.

By any measure York was excellent last season (2023) playing next to All American Edgerrin Cooper. However, position switch and being the QB of the defense and making the calls then making a play has been too much for him. His run fits are average at best. He was good vs. lsu, bad vs. cow and terrible vs. USC.
We need an upgrade at LB and York would benefit from just playing, not everything else..
