Our problem is that we just had a first year coach go 8-5 and our board wants to fire him for not being better than coaches that had much worse initial seasons at their schools but have now had the luxury of a few years to grow
This is the correct answer. This board is filled with the biggest collection of idiots.

what about losing the last 4 games inspires confidence?

Good hires let me count the names

Kirby Smart while still at Alabama

Todd Monkey while at GA and maybe while with Ravens

Jason Garret - after Cowboys Firing

Ed Oregon - after LSU firing

Shane Beamer - before SC hiring

Urban Meyer - after OSU retirement

Bill Bel
ichick

The problem is A&M gets stuck in tight window of replacing coaches they fired so the search is fast and dirty.
A good AD should be looking for Elko's replacement now he may work out he may not work out or he may get stolen.

Kyle DOES sell out. We sold…. Counting the student tickets…. 96.000 season tickets this year. When you factor in what we have to send the opposing schools there's not many seats that aren't spoken for.

Now, tickets sold doesn't mean tickets scanned. Actual attendance can very well fall short of a sellout.

Some would argue that our willingness to buy 96,000 season tickets, given the track record of this program since 1998, at least, is part of our problem.

This is what Bama's AD said he's been doing for the past few years.

We hired away Alabama's head coach. We hired away Florida State's national title winning head coach. Those were mega hires that garnered envy and raised eyebrows all across the country. They didn't work out, but you can't credibly or logically complain about those hires without hindsight. Elko doesn't come close to the gravitas of those hires, but we found ourselves in a desperate situation and we made the hire. If it works, we'll be damn lucky. If it doesn't, no one will be surprised.

I was all for Fran until I heard him open his mouth and then I was sure he wasn't "the guy." As far as Jimbo, all you had to do was listen to the smoke about him at FSU to know he was smoke and mirrors and had just a good enough defense to ride a Manziel like talent to an NC.

I'll say it again, a low hanging fruit hire that we were too arrogant to consider was Leach. There were 3 opportunities to bring him here. He may or may not have been NC caliber, but I don't think anybody could deny we would have a much better record, more bowl wins, and a program on better footing today if we had made that call. There are many other coaches that I would have liked more, but this was a very realistic possibility we consistently thumbed our nose at in favor of coaches who had done less.

If firing him were legit option, it would be because he plays not to lose

Jimbos was the cost of doing business and seemed like a good idea.

" A 7 year contract for an unproven coach is horse crap for A&M"
What do you think A&M is? We are a second tier program. The mistake was made when they fired fisher without having a replacement set up. And then we had to take what we could get. It would have been better tho keep fisher and buy players with buyout money.

Elkos contract is very reasonable in today's game. So maybe the powers are learning a little
Agree. But should he be the head coach of a program who wants to be in the playoffs?
