The curse of RC was not immediately firing him when the plane touched down from the Sugar Bowl. If student fan like myself could predict our offensive plays with 80% accuracy from the stands, pretty sure tOSU coordinators were at 90% plus rate on knowing our plays. Letting him hang around and have an office after he was let go was even more ridiculous than giving him a decade plus of beating poor SWC teams and then getting thumped in every bowl game.

We threw him under the bus. And that's what tu wanted after the 5 straight schlacking we put on tu.
BMA didn't have the guts to stand up against tu and the NCAA.

Love this school? Of course he does... we've made him incredibly wealthy. Gee, what's not to love when that occurs? Thus, his undying "support" is well..... sorta a no-brainer on his part. And before you cry more....dissect the man's record. Really look at it with an unemotional eye. It's middling at best. Once the SWC died and he lost his automatic seven wins a year he was exposed. Sorry, RC was at best a fair/good coach. He was no where near being great thus our fawning over him is just sad.

Class? What does that even mean? Anyway, given the stories… that's a debatable statement regardless.
BTW Jackie won three conference titles. Does he get a statue?

Not sure why he stuck around instead of getting a better coaching job elsewhere.

As PanzerAg mentioned already, take a reeeaaall close look at the opponents during that "amazing" run Slocum had. Take a look at the quality of the teams he built those wins on, then take a look at his record versus actual quality opponents.

How many national championships did RC have compared to DKR? How convenient to have left that little tidbit out.
And what was RCs winning percentage once he joined the B12? Here's a hint….. it took a major hit. Shocking what happens when you leave behind a dying conference and start competing with actual legit programs.
RC was a good coach. No where close to being great. Our obsession with his coaching ability is sorely misplaced.

RC couldn't hold a candle to whomever ran the D under Jackie and brought about the advent of the Wrecking Crew.
Plus Jackie had two 10 win seasons in the SWC in seven seasons well before RC recorded four 10 win seasons in the SWC in his first six seasons (including 11 and 12 win seasons). It was easy after being shown how a couple of times.

He was an amazing coordinator. One of the best. Sadly, the Peter Principle kicked in once he became HC.
For every Slocum win over Nebraska or Oklahoma or even Texas, there's a 51-6 thrashing by Oklahoma, one of several double-digit losses to Texas, a tie with SMU or Baylor, a game with -35 yards rushing and 90 total yards at Kansas State, a game where Kingsbury set a new NCAA game percentage-completion record, a loss at Southwestern Louisiana with seven turnovers, one of two shutouts ... and that's just off the top of my head.
The Aggies under Slocum occasionally overperformed and more than occasionally underperformed, even in games they won.
I suggest that Arkansas 1975 was the beginning of BAS, but it didn't mature until 1989-2002.

I'm pretty sure you couldn't predict ***** You probably think predicting "run"'or "pass" is predicting a play. It's not. RC was 11-3 and won the conference, and you think we should have fired him? You're insane.

was not realizing or ignoring what was happening in Texas high schools in the mid-to-late 90's
----> they were moving to the passing game...and putting their best athletes at the WR position
OU, Tech, and t.u. picked up on the trend and switched to passing attacks around 1999
and that led to landslide recruiting for the sips and sooners starting in 2000
the situation was further compounded for A&M when Fran was hired in 2003...and like R.C...he wanted a run-based offense.
and A&M fell even further behind OU, Tech, and t.u....as the Ags' record vs. those 3 programs in the 2000's indicates.
I believe the Ags were 8-22 vs. OU, Tech, and t.u. from 2001 to 2010...and 3 of the 8 wins came in 2010

RC benefited from the change of perception brought about by Jackie and playing in the weakest conference in the country...not to mention tu was waffling. He lost to any team with equal or greater talent and had fewer bowl wins than Sumlin during a tenure thay was twice as long.
