Elko managed to get a Top 20 Class and 28 players, from the portal. in the11 hr.
1 yr later we have a Top 10 Class and 9 portal players (Top 10 portal), with possibly a couple more big fish.

Everyone hires someone that they are not happy with. If you can't understand that concept, then you have no concept of leadership.

People are being too harsh on Elko for this, imo.

Elko made it clear that he's going to be a CEO coach and have the coordinators coach their sides of the ball. The problem is he was hired way, way too late in the cycle. Robinson wasn't going to stay and Santucci decided to go to GT. Elko was stuck with getting a reject for DC. The fact he even got on OC as decent as Klein is a small miracle, and getting Wiggins here to recruit good WR's was an even bigger one.

I'd bet he's been watching and evaluating his coaches. I really hope he's making changes soon, because he was scraping the bottom of the barrel when he was hired here.

You can't fully judge a HC in year one. There's too many that have turned it around to do that.

I think Elko deserves more time before being ripped apart. He's being pummeled partly from years of fan frustration over our inability to have good teams despite all the money thrown at the program.

But the November-December collapse is concerning for sure. Our coaching or our players need to vastly improve (or both) and our recruiting rankings (whatever that's worth) are lower than they've been in past years. So, will the coaching improve enough to make a difference until recruiting improves again? Idk, but the late collapse casts doubts on the direction of the program.

They could play better, but they could also play worse.

Is he resigning? Because yes he will.

Texags will roast Elko for keeping the same coaches.

Texags will say "this is year 1 of a new system" next year when we lose to Notre Dame if he fires a coordinator.


Elko should lose 30 pounds, recruit as he has been, add what he can in the portal, and let every position be truly up for grabs this Spring.

The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced he's firing Bateman. Don't think I've seen a HC say that harsh of stuff about an offense or defense and keep the coordinator.

It was a terrible hire in the first place so I'll give elko no credit for firing him. If he doesn't fire him, I'll be pizzed.
