Only a few things make me happier than watching Brent Venables lose.

Why would any OU player want to leave a team that went 6-7, lost a bowl game they should have won soundly, and will likely be an SEC bottom-dweller?

I mean they're not robots... money is a large factor but OU's loss certainly isn't helping

They already lost 26 players before the game. I think they said they had 56 scholarship players for this game.

So that is how the 57th Man tradition got started at OU!

56 is pretty normal for a bowl game in today's world. We had less against Oklahoma State. I want to say only about 45-50 or so. I think we have about 55-56 for our squad right now.

They already have. This is a bad football team and their WR room is a total train wreck.

We had 17 players go to the portal. And 4 opt out. Thats 21 gone. We'd have to be at 76 or 77 to be that low.

They pulled all the stops and still couldn't squeak by Navy.

Ou is not getting the sip treatment and will be an SEC bottom feeder. It's unfortunate we don't get to beat them every year.

Nebrasklahoma is becoming a very real possibility…although Zero U will still get plenty of Texas HS kids to go there or transfer there.

I just re-counted and we appear to be at 61 but that includes a DS and a kicker I'm not sure is on scholarship. So a little higher than I thought. I was just counting off hand the guys that were available at first glance and didn't include ARA, Moss, Chappell, etc. Also didn't include Jacob Graham in that 55-56 number. Also didn't include Garrett Miller who I believe is medically retiring.

We have about 55-56 available on scholarship for the game. We have about 59-61 total on scholarship pending a couple of guys I'm not sure about.

I missed Kerr and Jones in that original count, too. Just forgot about them at S.

We were somewhere between 81-83 during the year. Outside of a few walk ons and/or specialists being added that I'm not sure are still on scholarship.

I counted 84 scholarships based of what #s said. That means 63 without any injuries.

Now I'm not sure if the 56 comment from OU was available or on roster. There's potential for a big difference between the two.

Not that it matters, but I'm a nerd and keep a spreadsheet. It could very well be wrong in a couple of spots. It looks like we have 61 guys on the 2024 team that are still on the roster. Can't remember if Miller officially medically retired or is still on the list. But yeah, 61 and 56 can be quite a big difference depending on of that's available versus total:

Marcel Reed
Miles O'Neill
E.J. Smith
Amari Daniels
Le'Veon Moss
Rueben Owens
Jabre Barber

Bowl games have been pretty meaningless since 1998. They are completely and utterly irrelevant now.

I doubt anyone (even OU sombrero dude) gives two ****s about the score of that game . I'll always pull for Navy because of my father in law, but bowl games are glorified scrimmages for 3rd stringers.

I attended the game with my father in law who is an OU grad and there were two tu fans in our section who would stand up, turn around, yell "hook 'em horns," and do their little hand gesture every single time something negative happened to OU. It was nauseating, but I would expect nothing less from weirdos that support that school.

You're a good son-in-law.

I don't know why I feel satisfied that OU finished below .500. Outside of the 77-0 beat down I always liked them because they beat the horns on a regular basis. I guess I just never wanted them in the SEC.

I'd have given anything to take ou and for tu to go to the big 10 where the fit better anyway

They absolutely are robots. No one gains or loses recruiting standing based on a win or loss in a meaningless Tier 4 bowl game. OU will be good if they pay enough money for great players. They will be terrible if they don't. It really is that simple.

It's not about paying enough, OU will not be able to NIL there way to success

That being said for OU to stay relevant they will need good evaluation on 3*&4* guys that can play at the next level, find the next great QB; good coaching and a little bit of luck with injuries

They had 6 WR's in the portal and 4 new coming in. And they were already really hurting for real talent in the WR room. I just don't see any hope BV lasts after next year.

"OU has plenty of money"

Never heard that one. In fact, I was told the only reason they made the jump to the SEC is bc they had no choice bc they were in major debt.
