They bowl committee messed this up. Why not put us vs a 9-3 Navy, in the Armed Forces Bowl?

Why did the committee piss away the opportunity to have 2 of the schools that represent the armed forces so well?

And they could've had OU vs USC and put Lincoln Riley on the spot. I'd've watched that.

You assume the committee programs all the bowls ESPN owns???

The CFP committee doesn't select bowl games:

First time watching college football? So much wrong here. First, the committee doesn't assign bowls outside of the playoffs. 2nd-Navy is AAC, and the SEC doesn't have a bowl tie in with that conference.

Because the VAST majority of our fans (and the average college football fan in general) finds a USC v A&M matchup much, much more intriguing and a much bigger draw.

Navy? Really?

Outside of the playoff, each bowl has it's own committee. And who's playing Navy tomorrow?

If intriguing is the deciding factor (though it isn't) what is it about a 6-6 USC that is "much, much more intriguing"?

We're gonna play this game are we?

Because USC is a much bigger name and historically successful brand.
Outside of playoffs, the bowl games don't matter anymore with opt outs, transfers, etc. The records don't matter, the name does.
Same reason why nobody gets excited when we have to play Wake Forest in a bowl or faced with the specter of meeting Baylor in a bowl game, regardless of their record.
It's not rocket science.

The Armed Forces bowl is not an SEC bowl. OU is going this year because there wasn't an SEC bowl for them to go to.

Yes the bowls have a committee, but the SEC makes the final decision on who goes where.

The name! Historically! Don't matter. USC is 6-6. Taking out their creampuffs, they have a losing record. So intriguing, lol. Are you on the edge of your seat?

Count me in the crowd of finding USC more interesting. Name value kinda matters in the end, and I personally find usc a lot more interesting than Navy despite what the records say.

Most teams have a losing record if you take out their cream puffs

The game starts at 9:30 CST, 10:30 EST on a Friday. Outside of direct fans nobody is watching this game. Just treat this as practice time and scrimmage and get on to spring. At 8-4 it sucks to have to play a 6-6 team but Navy wouldn't change that. Be way better to be playing Illinois or Iowa. Or even Michigan. But 6-6 USC sucks.

USC vs Michigan: Came back to lead the game in the 4th, lost the lead with 0:37 left in the game

USC vs Penn St: Led the game 20-6 at halftime, lost in overtime

USC vs Notre Dame: Was driving to tie the game with 3:40 left in the game, threw 100 yd pick six. Had 557 total yards vs ND defense

Stop just looking at the record

We definitely don't want to play a ground control disciplined clock eating team like Navy.

No fun at all.

Navy is going to make OU look silly. Always take the Service Academies and the points when facing a team full of "athletes" aka undisciplined. They're gonna have that triple option rolling.

Hope Navy goes in dry on OU.

Given the current state of college football, should we ever face a Service Academy or even the Citadel or VMI for that matter, I would be rooting for our opponents. Only time I'd do that.

Navy lost to ND 14-51
Navy lost to Rice 10-24
Navy lost to Tulane 0-31

USC > Navy

personally playing USC isn't terrible in my book for a host of different reasons. name brand and a school we don't play often. we have never beaten them and we should tomorrow so that's an added bonus. also if u hadn't notified elko and staff seem to be recruiting california especially southern california harder with success. beating USC doesn't hurt with that objective in mind.

This year, I'd rather just play 6-6 USC and win than play 9-3 Navy and end up either our 5th loss.

You are right, but the OP doesn't like it and wants it changed. Therefore it should change.

Some of these posts just make me shake my head.

That's a nice thought, but this is the same team that allowed 55 to Memphis and struggled to score against Rice. Navy offense also struggled down the stretch. Tulane 35 - Navy 0 is all you need to know.

Take the Sooners -2.5 in this one. Easiest money this bowl season.

Even with OU losing over 30% of their roster to the portal including their QB and 6 receivers? I think it could be interesting .

They scored 56 v. Memphis and allowed in the 40's. Rice was a head scratcher as was the 35-0 loss to Tulane . They were somewhat Jekyll and Hyde. 6 turnovers vs the golden domers.

Yeah I don't think it's going to be 35-0…but Oklahoma isn't going to lose to Navy on a sunny 65 degree day in Fort Worth.

Navy is by far the easier team to beat if you just want the W.

We'll know soon enough. I am interested in seeing how it goes . No money on it , just seems like an interesting matchup given Navy lost nobody from the portal and they are 100% intact and looked pretty good against Army. Venables probably has a good defensive plan but OU offense … ugly. I feel like turnovers will be a key metric.

I was wrong, Navy lost a cornerback to the portal.
