I was under the assumption that players from service academies couldn't transfer, but was surprised to learn that they can - as long as it's before their junior year.

AFR because we use Kanye's song to run out at home games

Paul Skenes is an example as well. He pitched for Air Force baseball and then transferred to LSU and now pitches for the pirates. Certainly a unique situation with the academies. From what I understand they can't make NIL dollars while playing there but they are paid a salary I believe since they are technically enlisted in the military while there.

We won't make it through a full season unscathed at RB.

You can transfer up until the start of your junior year. Plenty non athletes leave at this juncture.

Then these bozos in here would stop clutching their pearls and reverse course before you could even blink.

They have to sign a military contract after their sophomore year then are paid the stipend above.

You are correct, sorry for lack of clarity. The A&M contract cadets get the same thing.

A couple of corrections for people on here:
1) Service Academy cadets are not the same as ROTC cadets. Service Academy cadets are active duty military personnel from Report day.
2) As a service academy cadet you are paid your monthly base pay starting from day one. However, there are certain things you are still required to pay for such as certain uniforms and computers. Most people elect to have their pay deducted to repay those costs over their time at the Academy. This normally results in $300 to $400 a month in your first two years and then close to the full base pay in your third and fourth years.
3) All Service academy students have the option to leave without any debt prior to start of class junior year. After that the majority of cadets are commissioned. Those that encounter scholastic, legal or honor issues will be "separated." This normally results in that person serving as an enlisted soldier.

As an Academy graduate and veteran I am fine with Kanye leaving. I wish him the best of luck.

Look, here's the deal. He's got the power to do whatever he wants. He's living in the 21st century. He knows he's so fn gifted and wants to transfer. You might say "no one man should have all that power" but who are you to say that? The fact is he DOES have all that power. Now that he's entered the portal, the clocks ticking.

Trying to remember the name of the Air Force Academy cadet that transferred to A&M in the early 80''s. Played FB and was pretty good.

There had been transfers from the military academies before NIL. It's just amplified in this case due to heightened awareness of the portal.

From my experience with the AFAC, #1 is incorrect in that the cadets are not active duty from day 1.

If nothing else he would bring discipline and respect to the locker room, plus the ability to pickup 1 yard given 3 or 4 tries at it !

Not sure what "your experience with the AFAC", actually USAFA, is but #1 is correct. As a West Point graduate, I can tell you that we had active duty ID cards listing the rank as "cadet", we had a SECRET security clearance, and were subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice, from day 1. The active duty time as a cadet did not count for promotion or retirement consideration.

After the first day of our junior year, we had an obligation to either finish the 4 years and be commissioned or to pay back the service obligation with enlisted service.

Everyone is for the name on the back not the front. Let's stop with the whole team scharde and just let them play one on one.

Unless, after gaining half of that one yard, he decided to quit in mid-run and hit the portal and go elsewhere.

At least he pitches for the Pirates and not the Nationals following his abandonment of Air Force.
