I only watched UIW one game( (Saturday). Very much a quick horizontal passing game. Hitch/quick slants etc. Get the ball out quickly to their receivers or running backs so they can use their running ability. Very Jake Spavital type offense. I would imagine Calzada would like to play in a more downfield passing game if he has any NFL dreams.

It's McQueen's version of the air raid. The same system that produced Mahomes, Goff, Hurts, Murray, Minshew, Mayfield, and Williams. That's just listing off of my head guys who started this year in the NFL without even counting backups or guys that have gotten drafted. Given at most no more than a dozen teams have been running that offense at a time in the last decade and it makes up that much of the NFL I would say it does a really good job of developing QBs. Certainly better than other college systems.
Any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still know where his towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with.

If Calzada came and ended up winning the conference championship game ala Brandon Stewart (1998) that would be awesome!

Surprising, in light of his comments after the game this weekend, where he said his current coach is the best he ever had and the camaraderie within the UIW team was the best he has ever been a part of
better than his words to the 12th man that one time

Always thought he got a rough deal by the aholes in the fanbase. He had that incredible Bama game, but separated a shoulder (or something similar) on his last TD pass in that game. Kept playing because there was essentially no one behind him to take over, and ended up taking an injury in his other shoulder. Still plays through. Ends the season with shoulder surgery and a fanbase of toxic aholes calling for him to be benched.

Yeah, it's unfortunate how sometimes the loudest idiots make everyone look bad.

I was not knocking this offense. Just making an observation. But you better have receivers who can make people miss. South Dakota State tackled very well and shut it down.

My name for him while he was here was "Crapnada"...... never got anything worth crap from him. So far, I've seen nothing to change my mind.

You didn't watch the Bama game? If that was crap, well, ain't nothing going to make you happy in A&M football. Except for a natty, which some would probably still complain about in this zoo.

I feel like the same people that are all-in on Reed because are the same people that were all-in on Calzada. QBs with one good trait and a lot of holes in the rest of their game

Rumor is, he wants to go to any team that can snag Jordan Shipley. Calzada prefers experienced receivers and if Shipley can be enticed to sign, he will be in his 23rd season.

Good luck to Zack Calzada's next chapter of his collegiate career at Cal. He is reuniting with is former Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin. I hope he wins the starting job there.

Calzada is following a similar collegiate path to Nick Starkel. After playing 3 years at Texas A&M from 2016-2018, Starkel transferred to Arkansas in 2019 before heading west to San Jose State for 2020 and 2021 seasons. After not being selected in the 2022 NFL draft, Starkel attended the Dallas Cowboys and New York Jets' rookie minicamps but was not signed. He later became the quarterbacks coach, passing game coordinator, and junior varsity head coach at Corona del Mar High School. Starkel also works as a private quarterback tutor.

Nick Starkel - Wikipedia

Like Starkel, Calzada spent 3 years at Texas A&M (2019-2021) before transferring to another SEC West team for one year (Auburn in 2022) and will end his collegiate career in the San Francisco Bay Area. Starkel played 6 years across 3 teams (2 SEC and 1 MW), and Calzada will play 7 years across 4 teams (2 SEC, 1 FCS, and 1 ACC).

Tate Martell played for like 5 schools
Taint Martell was on like five different rosters. I would call that 'playing' for anyone.

How many A&M QBs have done this since we have joined the SEC? Maybe we should stop blaming the QBs for holes in their game and start looking for the holes resulting in the lack of development. There is now an exhaustive list of former Aggie QBs that went to other schools and performed better. Having said all that, I'm still optimistic on Reed and Elko. Similarly, if don't find ways develop our OL play it won't matter who is in the pocket.
