How about we stop live streaming and putting videos on YouTube every week about it

That would be step 1 but it wouldn't stop attendees from putting it out there for public consumption. It really does need a revamp.

Someone needs to learn to read the room, but I don't think it's the OP (who currently has 38 blue stars and counting for his post).

What social media blitz? Who is getting bashed on social media? I'm not on social media any more (other than TA).

Clips from Yell Practice this past week of some really bad parts, on X and Facebook viral posts making fun of us
The whole thing was shared and available on WTAM's youtube account.

One thing that's definitely changed is that Yell Practice, when most of us were in school, was for students - mainly freshman - and maybe some parents. It wasn't intended as a destination event for former students and visiting fans, and definitely not shared worldwide via the interweb.

If you don't like the great traditions that make A&M special, then you should've gone to tu or Texas State. Those would've been a better culture fit for some of y'all. Shameful.

People's point is that some traditions have been *******ized to the point of becoming ridiculous.

Pretty sure no one is saying get rid of yell. Just change the portion of it that as far as I know, I have never heard one Aggie state they like that part of yell. Everyone I ever talked to back in the day while in school, corp and non corp majority did not like the story telling part. Majority did not go there for the story time and for the most part that part keeps many away. Back in the day the sound system was so bad could not hear them anyway. And when I finally heard a couple I was like, are these always this bad.

If the yell leaders are going to continue to be flamboyant and ridiculous, at least get cheerleaders on the side of the field. that would go a long way imo

The solution is stop going to midnight yell. I personally don't get the allure. I went once in college and then realized that wasn't how I wanted to spend my Friday evenings. But lots of people still show up, so you're going to keep getting it.

Maybe you're young, but some of these great traditions you speak of have slowly morphed into something completely different than in the past. The image a lot of you are defending in your heads is not today's reality. A reset or course correction is needed.

Here's a good example of how silly the yell leaders have gotten. I know the old army guys can't get around like they used to, but the c/o '15 guy looks completely ridiculous in comparison to everyone else.

This. Exactly. I know Dan Quinn, and that's exactly how we did it back in the day.
While I'm on my OLD soapbox, I notice a lack of "military bearing" in the yells of the '20's vs. the yells of the mid-20th Century. That is consistent with the fading image of A&M as a former military school vs. the current climate of Tik-Tok. It seems very difficult to me to exude masculinity when hopping around like your hair's on fire. All the yell leaders in my day were CT's like myself, so I don't know what the breakdown (CT vs. Non-reg) is now.
However, my main annoyance is the much faster tempo at which they sing the War Hymn currently and when attempting to "saw 'em off" makes it impossible to sway back and forth together.
If you get a chance to listen to the old FTAB recordings of the 1970's and 80's you will hear the yells and music at a much slower and deliberate tempo. But times change, and so is A&M.
My two cents - flame away.

Why do we care what people think about us? We should only care what matters to A&M.

I mean, A&M's whole thing is "from the outside looking in you can't understand it, and from the inside out, you can't explain it."

We sing this in the Spirit of Aggieland:
"Some may boast of prowess bold
Of the school they think so grand
But there's a spirit can ne'er be told
It's the Spirit of Aggieland"

Did you guys not see how many social media posts talking about how awesome A&M's gameday atmosphere is?

I'll say this for midnight yell: as long as midnight yell has energy, it's good. If some changes could be made to boost the energy then do it. But, there are NOT schools with the amount of people out there before a game doing what A&M does. A&M is different. We should embrace it and capitalize on it.

If I was A&M, I'd actually start inviting media, including the TV hosts, to join midnight yell each week.

In a world where different stands out, the past generations of Ags unknowingly separated A&M from the pack in this one way.

In short, stop worrying about what other people think about us and make midnight yell fun for US.

Thank you , Brother! The "cheerleaders" YES, I said cheerleaders hop, skip, jump and have there little routines they do. Cheerleaders, what;s the difference.?
Yell leaders, when I was here, '70, controlled the crowd, the yells were effective, they kept the students entuned to the game. All they seem to want to do now is their little hop, skip and jump routines, when the dj lets them
The war hymn has been rewritten in some places also, the SOUND just isn't there. Colonel E. V, Adams band and War Hymn were the pinnacle of the FTAB!!!!! It hasn't been the same since!!!
My Father In Law once told me, nothing stays the same, I never dreamed it would happen to my school, the school I thought so GRAND!

Class of 15 yell leader with the twirling and spinning around. That did not exist in the 90s when I was there. There are other things such as the foot/calf hip jaunt thing that they do after every word when telling a story. Simply just lead yells, that's what you are there for in the first place.

You know why A&M's gameday atmosphere gets so much praise? Bc we modernized it to keep up with the times…that's the whole point of the OP.

If some of you want change because A&M is embarrassing, there are many schools in the state that have the little high school cheerleader types, Choose one of them and transfer.
I for one am proud of the way we are at Texas A&M, it's the only place in the world like it!!! '70

Aggie fan here, not a former student. I have Aggies in my immediate family and I grew up on Aggie football. My old-man was involved with the program in the 80s-90s. I was lucky to be a kid that rode along on trips to the airport to pick up recruits, hung out in the locker room post-game and attended dinners at homes of legendary coaches. All this to say I understand the culture but can also provide an outsiders perspective. From that point of view I can tell you that I always admired the little things like Yell Practice. I get it, the jokes can be tough. What do you expect after decades of writing material about an event that does not really change much (same game, generally the same opponent). Makes you appreciate the guys who really nail it, no? Don't change a thing. In the end it is a net positive. TAMU is not losing athletes because Yell Practice is hokey. Just win baby...

I am an old. Class of '95.

I worry about my friends who are devolving into the "it was better in my day" mentality. It leads to stagnation.

Drones and lighting effects as an improvement? Whatever. Maybe mix it in. That said…

Yell practice was never about cool. It was about getting drunk, stumbling to Kyle from North Gate, and kissing girls. I don't think those things will ever go out of style.

Youth is the ethereal component.

And in my post, I said do what needs to be done to ensure midnight yell has energy. If that means modernizing some components, do it. Yes, the gameday experience has been modernized, but the corps, yells, and war hymn are still a part of it. Those three things help make A&M different from all other schools and venues.

What my post is about is stop caring about what everyone outside of A&M thinks is cool for A&M and worry about A&M thinks is cool for A&M. I could not care less what social media posts from other SEC people, who are directly competing with A&M, say about midnight yell. They have a vested interest in making A&M look bad. A&M needs to always do what's best for itself and not what everyone else thinks is best for A&M.

Additionally, A&M should actively be recruiting media to come to midnight yell and should actively pushing positive posts/messages about midnight yell. For all the hate it gets, I guarantee you it sparks a lot of interest for many others.

"Agreed. When I bring non-Aggies to a game at Kyle they're always much more impressed by the Spirit of Aggieland than the War Hymn. "

Need to return to playing Spirit immediately before kick-off when both teams are on the field. Really get's in the opponents head and we need every single advantage we can get.

The war hymn and saw them off is. It's absolutely stupid to do that all the time when it's against a team that's not Texas.

It needs to change man.
Not a fan of this take. Everyone always points out the War Hymn (including the sips), but never acknowledge that it is a 2 way street. There are a lot of them that do things like this.

Oh you fibber, meet me at Alma Sonic! lol I live in your neighborhood and Hog Fans Hate A&M, HATE! They 're bombing my facebook with that stupid WOKE Video! Do you get on Hogville.net? They made a thread of "teams you hate the most", Texas moving to the SEC dropped us to runner-up. They call us a Cult, Weird, Gheys, never stop joking about our BOY CHEERLEADERS!

I'm wondering if our recruits were impressed with Midnight Yell, last Friday? I was hoping they would not go, just like I was hoping we wouldn't run up the middle on 4th and goal. Both happened.
It's not about what other people think, it's about having something we enjoy!
It's about Culture, Make Aggie's Great Again!
