If the situation was reversed, would you want to sit in the student section in Austin?
I did it once when I was a cadet. Buddy and I bought sweatshirts from target to wear over our uniforms and made fake tsip student ids in case the asked to see it. The person at the gate did not give a **** and let us in. We wore our sweatshirts all the way till we got to our seats. When we took them off, all hell broke loose. People screaming at us, hurling insults, trying to get in our face, throwing beer at us, etc.

Real classy group of people.

If the situation was reversed and Texas Hellraisers, or whatever they're called, were in the Aggie student section, they would be treated very well?
I don't think they'd have beer thrown on them. We didn't say **** to anyone, weren't overly obnoxious about celebrating, and told the two girls next to us good game when we lost.

Some guy two rows in front of us got tossed when he mooned the Aggie Band during halftime.

On the way into the game people (pre-sweatshirt) were screaming insults at us and calling us baby killers.

I don't think I ever witnessed something like that at Kyle field even when we played our last game against the sips.

I figured '06 was your class year. Was some hippy actually busting out classics from the 1970's?

It is starting to look more and more like somebody needs to get fired over this debacle. There is no reason there should have been guest tickets available for this game when we will have tons of actual students with sportspasses that won't be able to get a ticket.

I don't know the details of student tickets in the current sense. Back when I was a student on the 80's we still used a prepaid coupon book for student tickets. As it still is today, student tickets were half-price of a regular reserved seat season ticket. If a student wanted to bring a guest, there were two options. 1) Use the coupon book of a student friend to redeem that student ticket and pay the extra cost to bring it to full price so the guest didn't need to bring an ID. 2) Students also had the option to purchase a "guest ticket" coupon book which was exactly the same as the student ticket coupon book, but it was full price, and when the coupon was redeemed it was for a seat in the student section and came with a sticker that it was a guest seat which did not require an ID. These were for those folks that had a planned guest like a Blinn girlfriend or a HS little brother. Since the guest coupon book was prepaid, they couldn't really refuse issuance of a ticket.

My point in all this is that there is a justification for guest tickets, and we need to be careful about these kneejerk responses "no guest passes for this game", especially in the case if someone prepaid before the season began. I understand there is abuse of the system going on. However, let's be a little more intentional with targeting the abuse and not throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
To be clear…a fully priced guess ticket is different than a guest "sticker" on a pulled ticket…but they have the same secondary market value but fulfilled a promise by the school to a student that purchase a season ticket. Unlike the A&M student parking system those student season tickets are NOT a license to hunt…

Feel horrible for most freshman and sophomores. Seems like they have virtually zero chance to get a ticket

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - Depending on who you ask, the ticket-pulling process for students to obtain tickets to the upcoming historic football matchup between rivals Texas A&M and the University of Texas was a not-so-pleasant experience.

On the first day, more than 30,000 tickets were distributed to students, marking a record, according to A&M officials. Along with that came complaints from students who declared the process 'unfair and unsafe.' Parents also expressed concerns over the long hours students camped outside. They camped and waited for hours, at times in stormy weather on Monday, to get their tickets.

Texas A&M EMS responded to 9 calls for service in the ticket pull area on Monday morning.

Three students were transported due to generally not feeling well.

"I was at ticket pull this morning and at least 4 ambulances came before noon. Multiple people ran out of water since they weren't expecting to be standing in a tightly packed crowd for 10+ hours. All the students were extremely upset and wanted to bring attention to the situation so the university could make a statement or move ticket pull online next year [sic]," explained another anonymous student.

Currents student Abby Johnson included, "As a student, I'm unimpressed and appalled at A&M's lack of communication. Every student I've talked to is upset. It's completely self-governing at this point and genuinely unsafe. If there were a medical emergency we would be in trouble."

"It's the large groups that are allowed to jump in line before the seniors that are the problem," Robin Douglass said on Facebook.

The complaints are reflected in a new survey from the Texas A&M Student Government Association taken this fall. It found most Sports Pass Holders prefer an online ticket pull system over the traditional in-person process
.
The survey found that the ability to pull tickets with friends was the most important factor for Sports Pass Holders related to the current system, with 46% of Sports Pass Holders ranking it number one in terms of importance. Having a mobile-friendly design for the online system was the second most important factor to consider.

Texas A&M to review ticket pull process criticized by students as "unsafe"

Literally almost got crushed. There were points I could not move my arms. You could not leave if you wanted to. If there was a medical emergency, there would have been no way to help that person and get them out safely in a timely manner. Ticket pull needs to change for the safety of the students. Also, to the dude who yelled "charge" at like noon where people were already cramped to death and made others continue to push, you need serious help.

I will be emailing and complaining to the 12th Man Foundation and Student Affairs, and I urge everyone to do the same if we want the system to change.

This is the problem. The orgs should have a request / lottery system through a portal through student services. Seniors and grads should pull first. Period.
