USCs offense is a crap shoot that depends on their QB's ability to escape pressure and find a man down field

Hard to stop and also hard to script, relies on broken coverages. not really something to hang your hat on but fun to watch and can catch fire

If he could get the long ball down, this offense will look very different. The ball he threw against LSU was perfection, but he missed multiple yesterday.

The LSU deep ball is a shining moment, but it was not a good decision as he had two wide open options below that pass into double coverage. Thank our WR for making the play

Auburn's defense is good but not THAT good and their offense is horrendous. The game may be closer than it should be but it would take a lot for us to lose out.
USc's offense was "terrible" too....
This weekend's game argues that USC's offense is looking REALLY good at this point.

I made the mistake of checking the game thread and posts like these are all over the game boards. Spewing nothing but negativity.

I laugh at most these fans. They are clueless.

Reed had a STELLAR offensive day. They were running on ALL cylinders. He had what almost 200 yards passing in the 1st quarter?

So if 200 yards passing in the 1st quarter isnt a good offense, you guy need to start watching curling or something that isn't so complicated to pick up.

Uhhhh, the zoo. So annoying at times.

It was very apparent to anyone who knows the game that A&M took off the gas and spend 3/4 of that game experimenting and getting 2nd and 3rd stringers lots and lots of reps.

And that is exactly when the ass whooping slowed down. After the 1st quarter....Klein was intentional in their approach to develop this team further.

Everyone else complaining about the performance...**** ur holes!! Said nicely....

The lowly zoo was right that Reed should start long before the "experts".

I'm surprised sunshine pumpers of positivity aren't calling for Weigman to start against Auburn!

Fight against the dictatorship of the federal bureaucracy!

Score was significantly lowered by two picks in the end zone.

As stated above, two drives probably would've ended in scores if not for Shanahan penalties.

Could've easily scored I the 50's if not for sloppiness

565 yards of offense does not suck. We stopped running our usual offense in the first quarter and treated the rest of the game like a scrimmage to get guys looks and work on things we need to.

Anyone that reads too much into this game doesn't know football.

To be fair, if the offense really wanted to, they would've run up the score by having Daniels in and making Reed run more. After the first quarter, it became clear they wanted to make Reed throw more and Smith run more to patch up our weaknesses

Reed wants to run when he sees the pass not there. They probably just held him back.

Thats promising. He's been ~55% in HS and early college. There's still things he needs to work on but having 2 games in a row in the mid 60s is positive.

Reed threw some good balls, even the deep balls were good, just a little off (to the correct side).
His bad balls are when he gets hurried, even if sone were just mental w the time clock in every QBs head.

When he's settled and controlled, even while on the move, he throws a pretty good ball.

Might need to let off the gas on some short balls though.
Reps reps reps. Nothing beats live game experience with a body in your face. Accuracy is improving. 64% 2 games in a row. Keep improving.

You don't know what youre talking about

He did not have a step, he had space between two defenders that closed on him, touching him by the time the ball got to him, lucky thomas is 6' 6" because the 6' 1" LSU safety almost had a hand on it

And again, Marcel had the WR on sideline plus Allen dragging under neath and even Moss as a check down all WIDE open

um...no. These are the kind of plays NFL QBs have to make every game. An open receiver doesnt have to have 10 yards of space around him. As to whether there were other open WRs...who tf cares?

both "closing" DBs are behind him the whole time.

Just based on Reed's eyes and tempo, Thomas was #1 on the play. He beat the defense. Reed made a great throw and Thomas made the routine catch.

Only the Zoo would advocate for a check down when a deep ball was executed to perfection.

Ball was thrown well before your selective screenshots. Thomas was not over the top of the outside man when ball was thrown. He faded inside over the safety and the safety almost made it back to the ball but Thomas's size was no match.

No one advocated for a check down, nice try loser

It was a ballsy play that paid off, but in general you work under to over in reads and the choice he made was a lower percentage throw than the other options. I agree Thomas was the hot route as you can see Marcel watches the safety dip, but he had all day with only 3 rushing, didn't need to be so quick with the read and could have made a higher percentage pass.

It was the right read and Thomas had the DB from the outset. The ball was placed perfectly where you teach deep ball throws - only the WR can make the catch. I would move on. You're clinging to a losing argument.

he had the safety beat on the inside but still double coverage with the outside guy over the top. go look at when the ball was thrown. you can think it was the right decision to take the lower percentage throw if you want, sometimes it's ok to take the shot and sometimes it pays off. Usually you don't take that shot with 3 other options open and only 3 defenders rushing

Not sure I agree with you stating the defense is solid. We have one of the worst passing defenses in the country. The front 7 have notable holes.

We have been fortunate and had a very weak schedule to date (only played two currently ranked top25 times and only one SEC team with a winning conference record). Both of those were notable losses with South Carolina looking like a juggernaut.

This is the easiest schedule (what we played so far) we ever had so our stats are definitely inflated.

Just because the nickel back turns and pivots towards the ball post throw does not mean he threw into double coverage. As an aside, the ball to Thomas in the endzone this weekend was into triple coverage. He did put the ball high enough not to get an interception, but it was triple coverage. Back to the story, you have to think about the context of the game as well as to why the checkdown is not the right play. We were gashing them on the ground and the safeties were sneaking up - look pre snap at the alignment. They were daring us to pass over the middle of the field, and deep. You absolutely take a shot over the top every time when that happens. I'm thinking you might only want the QB to throw the ball when a guy is wide open. But against a capable defense, you have to throw into tight windows. When you have a 6'5''+ WR with a step or two on his cover with a nickle that has to hustle over, you drop the dime and make sure that only your receiver can get to the ball. If the DB turned and ran or even bumped Thomas on his initial burst, the checks were there.

Last point, Reed needs a lot of reps on his deep balls. This week he missed Walker (though put it on his fingertips). He's not far away, but he needs reps, reps, reps.

This is a horrible take. To be a successful QB you do not throw a pass based on where a receiver is but where he will be. The play was executed perfectly. No xhance for a defender to make a play and Noah had them beat.

Moss is the key. Mizzou stayed in the game against SCar today because their starting RB was cruising. If Moss didn't get hurt, that was a totally different game. Rueben Owens may be the lynchpin for us making the postseason.

I guess it's possible, but there is no reason to think he would be in game shape. Why pin your hopes on guy that has not produced much and has been out for a season plus.

Seems like wishful thinking.
