Daughter is a senior up at BYU. I think the Kansas game could be tricky. Their record shows a terrible team, but they've beaten U of H and Iowa State. I also think the Houston game can be tricky for them.

The QB was pressured immediately and never had his eyes down field. So the call that decided the game was made on a defender covering a receiver who had no chance of getting the ball. If that's a foul, then we need to go over the game film and see all the dozens of times it wasn't called and ask why all the sudden it mattered.


Here's a hint to you ref apologists. They can throw a flag on every single play. They can ignore blatant offenses on every single play.

EVERY SINGLE PLAY.

Why on that play in that situation with the way the play unfolded? There's only one single reason why I ref would be flag happy there.

I started rooting for BYU late in this one. I think the playoff should be 16 teams if Big10 & SEC get 4 teams each every year. Having only 1 team from each of the Big12 and ACC seems wrong if someone is worthy like the ACC appears to be (and wouldn't mind a few more G5 teams). So I'm all for BYU winning out and then losing the Big12 title game. BYU would likely be left out of the playoffs (if they don't take Sips spot if we beat Sips), but it'd give the important people something to think about for expanding to 16 teams (plus byes are unfair).

SEC is getting 4 teams in, and if we beat Auburn & Sips then we're in barring a 40 point blowout in the SEC title game.

A hold is a hold is a hold. The fact that the QB didn't throw is irrelevant. If he'd thrown, then defensive holding would have become defensive pass interference.

That having been said, the only angle on TV last night was absolute crap (wide angle with the play in question at the top of the screen). The link provided above wasn't much better. I have no idea if there was enough there to call the hold... but the QB's situation is completely irrelevant.

I draft you to become an official in the new official league that will call all things the same. (Not being sarcastic or rude)

We need to have a common and standard call for every penalty, not interpretations. I used to hate the physicality of SEC play but now embrace it. If something that doesn't even get as much as glance in the SEC but is a game changing penalty in the big 12, well there's a problem. A big problem. It is the NCAA

There was one penalty all game on both teams up to that point for pass interference. No defensive holding calls.

So you either believe that both teams played EXTREMELY clean all game until that one play, or you realize that the refs called something that they hadn't been watching for all game, on the most critical play of the game.

I'm the first one to always say that a penalty is a penalty no matter the timing. But when that specific infraction hasn't been a penalty all game, then its selective enforcement.

And if you watch the play at game speed, he quickly grabs the guy and lets go. If that's defensive holding, then there should be 40 flags every single game every single week for defensive holding. That exact amount of contact is rarely if ever called.

That ref decided to change the game on marginal contact on a play that should have ended the game.

They've also beaten SMU. BYU is not by any stretch a bad team this year. I don't like losing to them but they have proved to be up to every challenge so far. Good for them.

And who doesnt throw garbage on the field when they could've easily reversed the call.

Special kind of stupid down in Utah to not help the team when you could give the officials the opportunity to get the call right.

Many people in here don't know the rules of college football, much less how it's called, and how players are taught.

These discussions always make it verrrry apparent how many people on this forum have never been on the field at even a high-school level.
