Sark was 5-7 his first year at t.u.
Smart was 8-5 his first year at Georgia
Saban was 6-6 his first year at Bama

We played our best game of the year and upset a good LSU team.
We played our worst game of the year and got upset by a good SC team.
Elko will likely finish with a better first year record than all of the coaches listed above.

We're doing just fine for our first year.

We're not any more cursed than Mississippi State, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Iowa State, NC State, Minnesota, Arizona, Wake Forest, Oklahoma State, Purdue, or UCLA.

Those are our equals.
Not even close. Those are our equals based on records maybe, but not every parameter that actually matters.

We should be having seasons like OU used to have. We should be able to pull off what LSU has over the years. Have some dignity.
We're not talking about a small sample size here. All data says those are our equals.

Exactly! What other college has grown men running around in white overalls like they're in a pride parade talking about farmers fight and beating the Longhorns is the only thing that matters.

So traditions and yell leaders are preventing us from winning a title. What about all the teams with no tradition or yell leaders without a title?

I know the answer.

The founders owned slaves. The slaves cursed the University from the depths of their heart. Now we as former students have the burden of the curse.

How do we do penance?

We are in Year 1 of a new coach. If anything, I am incredibly excited for the future with Elko and what he can accomplish. Most of us did not expect our season to go this well. I am incredibly excited for what may occur under Elko but to think that we're snakebit is ridiculous. New coach with a lot of turnover and we're still very competitive. Bodes well for a bright future.
you're getting way too excited about Aggie Football ! Don't forget, we're in year 85 of mediocrity, and we always find a way to perform well below expectations..... that's Aggie Football.

The curse of Harry Stiteler.

That man loved A&M so much he stayed in town even after they fired him for no good reason.

Or maybe it was the curse of Homer Norton.

A&M treated him so bad at the end of his coaching tenure that he went into the motel business in Stafford.

*and he still ended up making his final home in CS.

So I see you have zero knowledge of the history of Aggie Football from 1940 to present day.

You do realize that the other shoe drops every single year, correct?

It's not like we don't have 83+ years of historical data to draw such conclusions upon or anything like that.

The university has no desire to win a natty. The sooner y'all realize this, the better off you'll be.

One's susceptibility to a curse is directly proportional to one's willingness to believe you are cursed.

You could have added Oregon to the cursed list some time ago - a terrible team with a silly cartoon logo until the mid 90's when Phil Knight decided he was going to get involved after the Ducks appeared in the Rose Bowl for the first time since the 1950s.

Since that time he has given approximately $1 billion to Oregon with some reporting over $2 billion (obviously not just athletics).

So, how does a school go from second rate to perennial powerhouse (14 ten win seasons, 8 conference titles, and played for the national championship twice in the past 25 years)?

Can't be just money because we have a good bit of that ourselves.

How'd they do it? How do we do it?

Can't emphasize location either otherwise Miami wouldn't have been as trashy as they were until Schnellenberger arrived.

Speaking of coaches, hell, we were a lot like LSU until the arrival of Nick Saban.

Maybe we missed our chance when Urban Meyer was at Utah and infatuated with us.

The culture and traditions are stuck in 1939. The rest of the NCAA has moved into the 21st century. That's why.

That is absurd bull***** First of all the NCAA has nothing to do with anything right now. And even me, the oh-so-cosmopolitan new PhD guy, when I was living in CS and doing research and teaching at A&M back in the 90s, it sure never felt like 1939. Place of advanced minds and advanced thinking. Just saying.

And none of the people on this coaching staff or the players are associated with anything remotely connected to 1939. If anything, they have been over-coaching and over-coached. I think they will adjust and get us over the finish line at 10-2, at least get us into the tu game at 9-2, then katy bar the door. Trick plays, 12th man special teams, very aggressive. Silicon spray on the unis. **** it. I'm glad he went for it on those 4th down tries.
