Slick Uniforms…???

Watching last night, I don't ever remember seeing so many plays where the ball carrier just slips out of our grasp. I never remember anything like what we saw at any level aside from what we used to see out of Johnny. It definitely looked like the uniforms were just very hard to hold on to. Surely not shenanigans like in the link below, right?

1997 Divisional - Broncos Caught Spraying Their Uniforms With Silicon

I was honestly wondering the same thing. It's like their players were covered in lube.

It was bizarre. Very out of character. I kinda think something was up.

I think their QB being 240 pounds with tree trunk legs probably had a role in the result. The lead running back was a big boy too, and their X receiver was like 6'5".

Sometimes you have to credit them playing a smart, physical game. We ran into a bye-week, Homecoming buzzsaw and didn't play well.

Or you could assume they covered their jerseys in elephant jizz and we somehow didn't notice. No wrong answers here.

I was thinking more along the lines of wd40, but I guess it could have been elephant juice!

Except that 240 lb QB has been sacked the most in the league. And our normally stout defense couldn't bring him down. What changed?

They didn't need anything on their jersey. We flat whiffed on 95% of the missed tackles.

I think it's poor technique can't just make contact have to use your hips and wrap up. Elko mentioned this in post game.

You're probably right. It was just so bad it was hard to reason that it could be that bad (atrocious) compared to prior weeks. But I guess it happens.

What a dumb statement. We've been swarming to the ball and hitting hard all season. Our D is not soft. Something else was a factor last night.

On three separate occasions a blitzing LB coming at the QB just ran right past him and never even laid a finger on him. The QB just side stepped and the LB ran right bye.

The very first play of the game, the LB ran right past the QB.

There was something weird. Almost like there was a force field around the runners. It was absolutely bizarre. Like trying to grab silicone gel.

Your comment is idiotic at best. The factor last night was how soft they were.

Should've put duct tape on our hands.

I don't believe anybody will deny that it was bizarre for the number of missed tackles and how it seemed we slipped off. It just doesn't happen like that. Once or twice maybe but not ALL game.

There were lots of bizarre things to occur in that game and if we're trusting the officials to determine anything, we'll never know a thing. Would be quite the story though if the win was vacated for cheating though

Stickum. There was a receiver on my hs team who sprayed so much of that stuff on his gloves that his hands were getting stuck on opponents' jerseys when he tried to block.

I was wondering too if the Under Armour material was extra slick. Funny so many others were thinking the same thing

That's exactly why I don't think it is absurd to wonder about the sudden inability to grab a hold of the ball carrier and keep hold like we have been able to do all season. People used stickum because it worked and you can't see it but makes a huge difference. People are also by nature, sneaky, and will get really creative if they think they can get away with something and not get caught. Just watch a few episodes of Dateline. Maybe it was nothing more than bad tackling, but it was very uncharacteristic for our D line to have the back slip through our hands again and again, sometimes multiple times on the same play.

Not really. It's been a thing for a long time.

https://syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/2656747-how-the-nfl-cheats-foreign-substances.amp.html

"When offensive linemen started holding, I put a lot of Vaseline on my chest," he says. "Necessity is the mother of invention. For a while, everybody on our defense started doing it, but then it wasn't long before the opposition was sending the officials after us before the game and at halftime to check our jerseys."

In 1981, the NFL banned "slippery substances on the body, equipment or uniform of any player" and later instituted a procedure in which linemen were checked for the substances before the start of the game and at halftime."
