Listen, I know where we are at.
I know that we are performing much better than we have been in the last 5 years.
But, I also know what we all want us to be. In all reality, it feels like we have been treading water for the last few weeks. (almost like we cannot believe that we are where we are)
It is nice to believe that we are contenders for the national championship, but that is nowhere near the case. National championship teams have receivers that create separation. National Championship teams know who the F is their starting quarterback without a doubt. Everyone reading this knows deep in their heart that for the last couple of weeks, whenever our quarterback has underperformed, you thought "Put ___ in to shake things up!" That uncertainty is not the recipe for a national championship.
Elko has done a phenomenal job turning our culture around. But, for a defensive guy, how have we not engrained the most basic concept of defense being... wrap up? How are we not adjusting to the fact that our defensive line is getting in the backfield and they are dumping it right under our noses for easy gains? Was this not a problem week 1? Was this not a problem last week against LSU before we got the momentum back by surprising them with Reed? Today most of all?
By no means do I want anyone to take this post as being anti-Elko. I feel blessed to root for a team he is the head coach of, but there seems to be much bigger issues all around than what we had thought
Why were we so quick to make the change to Marcel when the pass wasn't working last week, but so reluctant to try something new today.
